Vesti iz sveta muzike ... Br.1 REEF lead singer GARY STRINGER needed 12 stitches in his hand after being 'glassed' in a bar near his home in Glastonbury. Stringer was in a local pub with Reef guitarist Kenwyn House on September 7, the day after the band's appearance at the Pilton Village Fete. He was approached by a group of men who began taunting the singer. One of the assailants then wielded a broken bottle at Stringer, who raised his arm to protect himself and sustained a severe gash in his hand. Afterwards, Stringer said, "I'd really like to know why they did it. If anyone has any information on who they were, I'd be very grateful if they could get in contact." Br.2 IN THE CITY, the annual music business convention ended in controversy last Tuesday, September 10, when Manchester four-piece Hoop-La-Baby won the final of the unsigned band competition amid allegations they had already been signed. Several industry insiders were angered by the choice, particularly as there were rumours Hoop-La-Baby have actually signed to Factory Too Records, the label run by In The City mentor Tony Wilson. Wilson coincidentally presented the all-girl band with their award plus a cheque for 3,000. The gig, at Dublin's Temple Theatre, was the culmination of five days of intense activity as 1,000 delegates descended upon Ireland for the convention, and witnessed the three best new bands, chosen by a panel of jurors from a to tal of 54 unsigned acts. Local authority Cherwell District Council granted the licence on Wednesday, September 11, at Otmoor Park, Beckley, Oxfordshire, even though it turned down the application to hold TRIBAL GATHERING on the same site earlier this year. Acts including UNDERWORLD, SPOOKY, APHEX TWIN and BLACK STAR LINER, plus DJs GAYLE SAN, LTJ BUKEM, ROBERT MILES and SASHA will be appearing at the 20,000-capacity all-day-and-night extravaganza. *****

Vesti iz sveta muzike ... Br.4 TINDERSTICKS release a new album on October 21, a soundtrack for a French film called Nenette Et Boni. They will also play a residence at the London Institute Of Contemporary Arts in November. Nenette Et Boni, made by Cocolat director Claire Denis, was originally planned to include traditional African music, but when Denis saw Tindersticks in Paris with a 24-piece orchestra she decided to use them instead. "I'm not really sure what it's about," said Tindersticks singer Stuart Staples. "I don't think it's really that important what. It's about a brother and a sister and the sister gets pregnant." The band had always wanted to do a film soundtrack and have supplied new versions of 'My Sister' and 'Tiny Tears' - retitled 'Ma Soeur' and 'Petites Goutes D'Eau' - as well as some incidental music. Claire Denis, who worked on Wim Wenders' cult classic Wings Of Desire and Jim Jarmusch's Down By Law, says the music is the most beautiful and moving she has ever worked with. Meanwhile, Tindersticks will play five nights in London at The Mall ICA. "We wanted to play a residency where we could do different things on all of the nights and I really like the space, it lends itself really well to using film and other things," said Stuart. The shows run from November 5 to 9. There will be a different support band every night and the band will also be previewing songs from their forthcoming new album due at the end of the year. *****

According to singer Paul Heaton, the album, the band's sixth, is a more personal an low-key affair but then told NME: "It's the worst blues album in the world ever. "All five of the band's previous albums have made the UK Top Ten and the 2.2 million selling 'Carry On Up The Charts', their last LP, is one of the country's best-selling records of all time. The track listing for 'Blue Is The Colour' is: 'Don't Marry Her', 'Little Blue', 'Mirror', 'Blackbird On The Wire', 'The Sound Of North America', 'Have Fun', 'Liar's Bar', 'Rotterdam', 'Foundations', 'Artificial Flowers', 'One God' and 'Alone'. Apart from 'Artificial Flowers', originally recorded by Bobby Darin, all the tracks were written by Paul Heaton and Dave Rotheray, the pair responsible for 14 of the band's 15 UK hits. Vocals are shared between Heaton, Rotheray and Jacqui Abbott. 'Rotterda', the first single to be released from the album, is out on Monday (September 30). The band head out on a ten date UK tour on October 25, visiting venues with capacities between 1,500 and 2,000, but tickets sold out within two days of going on sale, mostly to the band's fan club.

The album, called 'Dizzy Heights', is due to arrive in the shops on November 11 with a taster single called 'What If?', co-written by Terry Hall, released on October 21. The writing of the album was temporarily interrupted by the band's huge Number One single 'Three Lions' featuring comedians DAVID BADDIEL and FRANK SKINNER, which became the anthem for the Euro '96 soccer championships. Broudie said: "The collaborations are all really good. I heard BabyBird doing a Mark Radcliffe session (on Radio 1) and I just really liked it. Then they supported us at a gig and I met Steven (Jones) and he seemed like a nice bloke, an eccentric, and I thought it would be good to write a song with him. With Nicky, it was strange as I never actually met him. He wrote the words first and I put the music to it afterwards, which I've never done before. But the couple I wrote with Terry were easy 'cause we've written a few together before." Broudie said the Steven Jones track is called 'Sugar-coated Iceberg' and the Nicky Wire track 'Waiting For Today To Happen', adding that a full track listing is yet to be decided. The band will also be embarking on a UK tour in November.

Kylie, whose last LP was her eponymous 1994 release, and the Welsh singer have casually penned some tunes over "tea and toast". A spokes woman for Kylie's label deConstruction confirmed, "She is preparing an album and, yes, she has done some work writing with the Manics, but we don't know yet whether the stuff is actually going to be recorded for the album or not." A spokesman for the Manics said, "Kylie met James about three months ago. They got together again more recently, but it's really low-key at the minute. There was tea and toast, you know. I think they are just going to play it by ear. James plays a lot of things quite close to his chest." DeConstruction added that Kylie has also been working with dance outfit BROTHERS IN RHYTHM for the album, scheduled for release in April next year. They would not confirm whether current chart act OLIVE were also collaborating with her. Kylie's most recent chart success was last year's duet with NICK CAVE, 'Where The Wild Roses Grow'.

The device, which had been sent to the star's management company Brave in Wandsworth, London, was spotted on September 18 by a postal worker at Tooting Post Office, South London after alerts had been issued by US police and Scotland Yard. The post office was evacuated and the package was destroyed by Scotland Yard's bomb squad. Once the drama was over, Bj÷rk told tabloid reporters outside her London home she was more worried about her nine-year-old son Sindri than herself. She added, "I'll be fine - I'm always fine. I'm just very sad that a man has done that. It's tragic. This has left me very frightened indeed" Pest control officer Ricardo Lopez (21), who lived in Miami, Florida, committed suicide by shooting himself in the mouth with a .38 revolver because he could not cope with the thought of Bjork's relationship with drum'n'bass hero GOLDIE, apparently because he was black. But before he pulled the trigger, Lopez carefully constructed and posted a bomb made from a hollowed-out book packed with sulphuric acid. It was intended to explode in Bjork's face when she opened it, causing disfigurement, severe burns and possibly even death. Police in the US only became aware of the bomb plot when Lopez's neighbours complained about a smell coming from his flat. When officers broke in, they discovered his decomposing body slumped in front of a video camera. Tapes in the room - which was covered with posters of the star - showed Lopez making the bomb and writing out the address on the envelope, with Bjork's album 'Post' playing in the background. A dated suicide tape revealed he had been dead for four days. British police were immediately contacted and Bjork and her son Sindri were put on alert. It was two days before the bomb was located. Miami police have issued extracts from the tape, including one part where Lopez tells the camera of his love for the Icelandic star, saying: "I am obsessed with Bjork. Her relationship is unacceptable." Police spokesman Todd DeAngelis said: "You see him raise the revolver into his mouth and pull the trigger. The body falls out of view of the camera." A spokeswoman at Bjork's record company One Little Indian said: "Bjork is absolutely exhausted, as she hasn't had a great deal of sleep since this happened. It is just so awful, we're all really shocked here. I can't begin to imagine what Bjork is going through. Although she had never met or spoken to the individual concerned, she is naturally very distressed to hear about his death." The spokeswoman added that Bjork was currently busy in the middle of a world tour and writing songs for her third solo album.

OASIS have broken their silence over why they dramatically abandoned their US tour earlier this month by issuing a confusing and contradictory statement through their management company Ignition. The statement, released to the press on Tuesday, September 17, reads, "As of October 1996, Oasis will start work on their third album as a result of coming off the road early during their recent US tour. The reason for the premature return of the band has nothing to do with recent UK tabloid hysteria (eg, poor ticket sales, Liam's fiancee Patsy Kensit, sibling rivalry or internal differences). It was a decision taken solely by Noel Gallagher on behalf of his four friends. We look forward to presenting our fans with a new album in the summer '97. It ain't over till it's over. Keep the faith. Oasis." Yet the previous week, the band's record label Creation issued an official statement saying the tour HAD been abandoned because of "internal differences". Band spokesman Johnny Hopkins denied there was anything contradictory in the statements and said there was nothing else to say on the matter. The band have remained out of the public eye since they returned to Britain after Noel walked out on the band before a gig at Charlotte, North Carolina. The five band members are believed to be holed up in separate rural retreats. Although all worldwide live dates for the rest of the year have been cancelled, Hopkins confirmed Oasis were considering playing a charity gig in Manchester this December. According to reports in the tabloids, the band want to play at the 8,000-capacity G-Mex Centre, with all money raised going towards rebuilding the city's Arndale Centre, devastated this summer by an IRA bomb. Meanwhile, Noel appears as guest vocalist on the new CHEMICAL BROTHERS single 'Setting Sun', which is out on Monday, a week earlier than originally planned. The release date of the single, which was written last winter and has been part of the Chemical's DJing set since February, was brought forward by their record label Virgin so as not to clash with the release of the new single from fellow Virgin act SPICE GIRLS. Virgin executives are convinced both releases will be massive hits, with the publicity surrounding Noel expected to further boost sales of 'Setting Sun'. Oasis also release a new video, Oasis... There And Then, on October 14, featuring footage from the band's live appearances last year at Earl's Court and this year at Maine Road.

Bubnjevi, kazes... Pamtim dva.. : pod jedan: dobre marke su: Pearl, Sonor, Tama, Ludwig, Yamaha pod dva: mogu se kupiti ili u Paunovicu, koji ce svojski da te odere, ili, sto je bolja varijanta, nadji nekog tipa u oglasima, mada ce te i ovaj odrati ako trazis neki od navedenih kompleta, ali ce ovaj baja iz oglasa bar biti manje-vise realan. Treca, ludacka varijanta je da odes u Budimpestu i od masnog Layosa u Beogradskoj ulici kupis nesto kulturno, novo i neosteceno i prosvercujes u dzepu preko grane. pod tri: ne znam posto su kod Paunovica jer se ne usudjujem da pitam.. Znam da je relativno dobar kec oko 100-200DM (kec koji nije nista posebno ali zvuci kao kec za razliku od onih u vecini studija), cinele su ti otprilike isto tako, od 100 pa navise, bas nemam pojma posto je, a prelazi su isto od stotke pa navise. Music News - NME.com STING JOINS COPELAND IN NEW LABEL LAUNCH IRS founder Miles Copeland has launched a new label following the transfer this summer of IRS from its Bugle House base in London to EMI's offices at Brook Green. Copeland's new venture, Ark 21, will incorporate various sub-labels including Pangaea, a joint venture with Sting. Distribution outside the US is via EMI Records, while it will operate as a stand-alone company in the States, handling its own marketing and promotion with distribution through EMD. Long-time Copeland staffer Steve Tannett has been appointed Ark's managing director with overall responsibility for the company's business outside North America, while former Tribal UK head Richard Breeden takes the role of director of A&R and operations at a new dance imprint, Pagan. Tannett says a decision was made to start a new label after Copeland failed in an attempt to buy back IRS from EMI, which acquired it six years ago. The label has Paul Carrack among its artists and released REM's early albums. Among the first releases for Ark will be Twang! - A Tribute To Hank Marvin & The Shadows, which includes Peter Green's first recording for many years and contributions from guitarists Mark Knopfler and Brian May. A Police covers album is also planned with contributions from acts including Aswad and Chaka Demus & Pliers.

Here come those chirpy Cardigans, the one band you can rely on not to make a 'difficult' second album full of neo-jazz experimentalism, tales of pain and betrayal and doom metal cover versions. Er, except that's precisely what they have made. The difference is, it hasn't made The Cardigans uncommercial, and it has made them even better. True, 'The First Band On The Moon' may come as a bit of a shock to those expecting a breezy collection of summery pop tunes like last year's two-million-selling 'Life'. But 'Life' was actually a sweet'n'simple compilation of their first two Swedish albums, which rather sneakily left out all the weird'n'nasty bits. Yup, there's a dark side to '...The Moon'. 'Your New Cuckoo' starts off sounding like Mike Flowers then lunges headlong into an embittered tale of rabid infidelity. 'Step On Me' is a menacing, claustrophobic slump through self-loathing. 'Iron Man' is the Black Sabbath song. But they all sound like heavenly pop hits regardless. And there's also a brighter side: the dizzy disco of 'Lovefool', Nina's Disney theme matine queen routine on 'Great Divide', the magnificent flute solo (no, really!) on 'Choke'... The Cardigans then, are still a pop group, if no longer a POP! group. But that's just dandy, because they're advancing rather than retreating to the indie womb, challenging the mainstream rather than chucking in the towel and, most importantly, still writing genius pop songs rather than noodling around in no-tunes land." The band were expected to debut at number one in the album chart yesterday, with first week sales of more than 10 0,000 of the album, K. The success comes just four months after their debut single Grateful When You're Dead peaked at 35. The band's two subsequent singles, Tattva and Hey Dude have peaked at four and two respectively. After their UK tour, the band are planning trips to the US and Japan to promote the album and lining up a performance on Later With Jools later this autumn. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -- A STRONG FANBASE POWERS KULA SHAKER TO THE TOP OF THE ALBUMS CHART Kula Shaker's success in entering the the album chart at number one with their debut album yesterday reaffirms the alternative rock four-piece as arguably the hottest new British band of the year. For Columbia's new managing director Ged Doherty and general manager and head of A&R Dave Balfe, the success caps a spectacular spell since their arrival in the summer. But Balfe says that the pair should not take all the credit for the band's achievements. "I joined Columbia some months after Kula Shaker were signed, so I take no credit for their success," he adds. The praise should, instead, he says, go to product manager Jo Cavanagh, head of alternative sales and promotions Robbie McIntosh and the band. After signing to Columbia a year ago - when they finished joint first in the In The City unsigned band competition in Manchester - the label has invested effort in building the act through a strong fanbase. Sony UK chairman Paul Burger says, "We have taken a lot of care that there is no hype around Kula Shaker and built it from the ground up. It has been a real team effort at Columbia." NME.com - Lp review THE LEMONHEADS Car Button Cloth (East West/All formats) "... For one so royally fucked up, Evan Dando's a very tidy craftsman. Perhaps it's the one focal point in the aching blur of his life. Perhaps it explains and excuses the mess he's made of day-to-day pop stardom, sweeps away the worst excesses of his semi-tragic celebrity buffoonery. This, then, his seventh Lemonheads album, is the story of a trust-funded, former crack-smoking, ex-junkie pop star from Boston who became the most roundly ridiculed man in rock simply for looking cute and acting do pey, and how he emerged with his soul scarred but his talent intact. After an opening burst of seven delightfully-conceived songs things start to sag somewhat and - bar a couple - the remaining six sound more like B-sides. You can see Evan's shoulders drooping halfway through as the toll of telling his story hits home. Remember, this is a man whose biggest trauma on his last album revolved around the loss of a favourite T-shirt when his girlfriend split. We're posted a clear sign of Evan's present emotional state with the last line of the first song, 'It's All True'. As the jaunty country-rock coda is rejoined one last time Evan sighs, "I don't wake up with a sudden start, but with empty arms and a broken heart". This loneliness can at least be vocalised, however, unlike the solitude he speaks of in the undiluted Lemon pop 'If I Could Talk I'd Tell You' where he recounts the woe of being interviewed whilst unable to talk through crack abuse. He ends the song whistling the gentle hookline, proving there's hope for us all. Elsewhere, there's the funereally-paced of 'Losing Your Mind' - only Brian Wilson has written songs about madness that sound as softly beautiful and sad as this. He tries to provide light relief with a version of a traditional country song, 'Knoxville Girl', but instead this is where 'Car Button Cloth' first hits choppy waters. '6ix' is a flabby wade through distortion that's apparently about Gwyneth Paltrow's severed head in Seven; 'One More Time' sounds like the sort of thing leather-capped buskers knock out on the Underground.
