Ferrariu na pamet nije padalo da išta rizikuje, uostalom kao ni Williamsu. Imala bi ta priča drugačiji kraj da je Eddie dobio priliku da se umiješa, vjeruj mi, ali bolje je što nije.

A capacity crowd of 20,000 packed the Molson Center, home of the Montreal Canadiens, and gave Villeneuve a 10-minute standing ovation. They then listened in on a press conference. The fervor rivaled any shown in the past for Quebec's sporting heroes. Most members of the crowd waved the blue-and-white flags of Quebec, rather than the Canadian maple-leaf flag, but Villeneuve sidestepped a question about where he stood on the issue of Quebec separatism. Tickets to the event were free, and were snapped up by fans Tuesday in less than two hours. Some ticketholders spent the night on the sidewalk in order to get good seats. The event also was telecast live by nearly every channel in Quebec and on the main nationwide all-news channel. Villeneuve, now lives in Monaco but spent his early years in Iberville, Quebec. He is the son of the late Formula One star Gilles Villeneuve. He was asked whether he thought about his father after winning the drivers' title in the final race of the season last month in Jerez, Spain. "It's something very private," he said. ``As soon as I was alone, I started thinking about that. It's not something I would share with everyone."

Auto Trader RAC Touring Car Championship Silverstone: Rounds 23&24, September 21 The title-winning Renault team ended the Auto Trader RAC Touring Car Championship in appropriate style at Silverstone this afternoon, Alain Menu and Jason Plato claiming a win apiece in a pair of hard-fought season-closing encounters. Renault's double victory brings the manufacturer's tally of race wins for the year to 14 from 24 races. Today's events -- watched by a Silverstone BTCC record of 30,000 spectators -- settled the battle for second place in the championships, Frank Biela pipping Plato for the drivers' honour by a single point and Audi edging out Honda for runner-up place to Renault in the manufacturers' battle. In the cash-rich Total Cup for Independents, Robb Gravett claimed the UKpounds60,000 champion's prize. Menu's victory in round 23 of the Auto Trader Championship was possibly his most controversial of the year, after he wrested the lead from his Renault team-mate Plato on the 10th of the scheduled 20 laps. Plato had made a perfect getaway from pole position to lead Menu and Nissan's Anthony Reid. But the newly crowned champion was in no mood to play second fiddle: as the leading trio approached Becketts, Menu lunged down Plato's inside, forcing his team-mate wide and on to the 'dirty' side of the track. As the Swiss star romped into the lead, Reid spotted his opportunity and followed him through, demoting Plato to a disappointed third. The race was brought to a halt two laps early when Lee Brookes's Peugeot spun and clouted the barriers exiting the Ireland esses; Brookes was unhurt but his car came to rest in the middle of the track. With the results declared at 17 laps, Menu was the winner by 2.3 seconds from Reid, with Plato -- suffering with damaged tyres -- a further four seconds adrift. Gabriele Tarquini, who made a poor start from the front row of the grid, was fourth for Honda, ahead of Kelvin Burt's Volvo and David Leslie in the second Nissan. Biela finished eighth to cement his championship runner-up position. Matt Neal's Nissan was the leading Total Cup for Independents runner in 14th; he had been planning to hand the class win to Brookes until the latter's accident. If Plato was disappointed by his first-race result, he more than made up for it with a storming start to the second encounter. As the lights flashed to green he blasted away from the grid and pole man Menu to lead the field into the first corner, with Menu holding second from James Thompson's Honda, Reid and Tarquini. The two Renaults fought for the final win of the year throughout the race, Menu never more than half a second from Plato and trying everything in his championship-winning repertoire to find a way past. This time, however, the Briton made sure he did not present any overtaking opportunities to the wily Swiss and they finished as they had started, separated by less than a quarter of a second. The battle for third position was no less intense: Reid harried Thompson mercilessly all the way to the 11th tour, finding a way alongside the Honda half-way around the lap only for the manoeuvre to end in collision. As both cars slowed, Tarquini swept past and into a third place he would never lose. Thompson got going again to claim fourth, but Reid's race ended in the pits, his Nissan battered. Londonski dnevni list "The Times" objavio je da poseduje tonski zapis sa trke u Herezu u kome se jasno može videti da su se dva britanska tima, McLaren i Williams, dogovarala u završnici trke. Snimak sadrži razgovor između vozača i rukovodilaca timova, koji pokazuje da je završnica trke bila "dirigovana". Žak Vilnev, koji je morao na poslednjoj trci da završi ispred Šumahera da bi osvojio šampionat, dobio je naređenje od Džona Klira (John Clear), inženjera Vilijamsa, da propusti Miku Hakinena kako bi ovaj osvojio prvu pobedu u karijeri. Tok razgovora je prema Tajmsu išao ovako: "Skoncentriši se Žak." "Hakinen je odmah iza. "Poslednji krug... Poslednji krug." "Hakinen nam je bio od velike pomoći." List tvrdi da su Mika Hakinen i Dejvid Kultard imali zadatak da naprave "tampon zonu" izmedju Vilneva i Irvajna, kako agresivni Irac ne bi pokušao da eliminiše Kanađanina i tako ga liši titule. Navodi se i da je Kultardu radio vezom zaprećeno otkazom u Meklarenu ukoliko ne propusti timskog kolegu Miku Hakinena ispred sebe. Maks Mozli, predsednik FIA-e, nakon ove vesti pozvao je sve vlasnike timova na razgovor u London, kako bi razgovarali o ovoj aferi i da bi im preneo da će ovakvi dogovori timova ubuduće biti strogo zabranjeni i oštro kažnjavani. Za koji dan očekuje se i izricanje kazne Mihaelu Šumaheru zbog sudara sa Vilnevom na poslednjoj trci. Nemac se nada da neće dobiti zabranu vožnje u prvih nekoliko trka u sledećoj sezoni, već da će se sve završiti na novčanoj kazni.

Portparol Ferarija poriče da je Šumaherov F310B bolid gubio ulje ili vodu pred incident sa Vilnevom. "U trenutku sudara sa Vilnevom, bolid je bio u perfektnom stanju", rekao je portparol. "Ako pogledate vremena u prvim krugovima odmah nakon prvog i drugog pit-stopa, videćete da su vrlo slična. Jedina razlika je u tome što je posle drugog pit-stopa Mihael imao 15-20kg goriva više, odnosno 0.2s po krugu." Saopšteno je da se mogu predočiti i telemetrijski izveštaji koji jasno pokazuju da nije bilo nikakvih problema na Šumaherovom bolidu. Čak je Džeki Stjuart posvedočio u korist Ferrarija: "Čuo sam se telefonom sa jako dobrim prijateljem koji radi u Ferrarijevoj posadi. Rekao mi je da se Šumaher nije žalio ni na kakve probleme u toku trke, i ja toj osobi verujem."

SKANDALOZNO! ;) Danas se, kako je i najavljeno, sastajao savet FIA a donete su sledeće odluke: 1) Mihael Šumaher neće biti kažnjen nikakvom zabranom vožnje niti novčanom kaznom, već će mu biti oduzeti svi poeni koje je osvojio ove sezone, što znači da se smrad opet izvukao praktično bez ikakve kazne :( 2) Gubitak poena odnosi se samo na Šumahera, ali ne i na Ferrari kome ostaju bodovi i drugo mesto u šampionatu konstruktora. Što je najluđe, Šumaher zadržava osvojene poene i pobede u svojoj ukupnoj statistici u karijeri (!) što znači da je efekat kazne u principu samo to da je Hajnc-Herald Frentzen drugoplasirani vozač ove sezone. 3) McLaren i Williams oslobođeni su optužbi za dogovaranje završnice trke. Britanska štampa je ogorčena zbog odluke FIA-e da ne kazni ozbiljnije Mihaela Šumahera zbog incidenta u Herezu. "Budale su ostavile širom otvorena vrata svakom vozaču kome ubuduće padne na pamet da izbaci konkurenta iz trke. Svako će sada moći da se poziva na Šumeherovu presudu", kaže se u listu "Sun". Britanski Dnevni Telegraf ;) ocenjuje odluku FIA-e kao skandaloznu, obzirom da Šumaher nije osetio gotovo nikakve konsekvence.

Maks Mozli je saopštio da FIA vodi istragu povodom afere sa snimkom razgovora između posada i vozača McLarena i Williamsa. Mozli će se sastati sa šefovima svih timova, a na dnevnom redu će biti upotreba i zloupotreba radio veze sa vozačima. Kako je Mozli rekao, razmišlja se i o odluci da se radio kanali otvore i učine dostupnim svim timovima, umesto da se na neki način kriptuju.

Vlasnik Formule 1, Berni Iklston, priložio je britanskoj laburističkoj partiji donaciju u vrednosti od milion funti u januaru ove godine. Pretpostavlja se da je svrha donacije bila da se "podmaže" donošenje odluke o izuzimanju takmičenja Formule 1 iz opšteg zakona o zabrani reklamiranja cigareta. Obzirom da je trenutno izbila prava afera povodom ovog slučaja, portparol laburista je obećao da će sav novac biti vraćen Iklstonu, ali je dodao: "Novac je potrošen u izbornoj kampanji, ali svakako ćemo naći način da ga vratimo donatoru."

U Engleskoj je izbio skandal oko reklamiranja duvanskih kompanija u Formuli 1.. Stranka Toni Blera, koja je pobedila na izborima je od Bernija Eklstona dobila donaciju u iznosu od 2 miliona dolara, a ovi su kao protivuslugu doneli odluku da f1 bude jedini sport u kome se duvan sme reklamirati. Izvinjenje Tonija Blera Britanski premijer Toni Bler, izvinio se zbog učešća njegove vlade u aferi oko kontraverzne donacije Bernija Iklstouna laburističkoj partiji: "Preuzimam punu odgovornost i izvinjavam se", rekao je Bler. Toni Bler je u izjavi za BBC dodao: "Nismo odmah reagovali jer u prvi mah nismo razumeli koliko je stvar ozbiljna". Inače, vlada je optužena da je progledala kroz prste i dozvolila reklamiranje duvanskih proizvoda na F1 bolidima, zbog donacije od 1 milion funti koju je priložio vlasnik akcija Formule 1, Berni Iklstoun.

On je onim potezom kaznio sam sebe više nego bilo ko drugi u proteklih nekoliko nedelja." Edi Džordan: "On je profesionalac, ova kazna ga neće pogoditi ni najmanje. Mislim da je njemu najveći neuspeh što nije osvojio ovogodišnji šampionat." Frenk Vilijams: "Kada heroja udare javno u zadnjicu svi su oduševljeni spektaklom. Gorka činjenica koja ostaje je da ako Mihael ostane praktično nekažnjen, svi šefovi timova će stajati u redu za njegove usluge."

Carpentier To Run Second Player's/Forsythe Reynard Mercedes-Benz CART Online (November 19) -- Canadian driver Patrick Carpentier, who recently captured the Jim Trueman Rookie of the Year award in the PPG CART World Series, will join fellow countryman Greg Moore on the Player's Forsythe Racing CART Team for the 1998 season. Carpentier and Moore will each drive Reynard Mercedes-Benz race cars on Firestone tires. The 26-year-old French Canadian joins the team as a final step in the Player's Driver Development Program (DDP). He won the 1996 Player's Atlantic championship and also received support from the company in his rookie CART season with Team Alumax/Bettenhausen Motorsports. "Player's has been an important part of my success for the past three seasons and they have once again showed tremendous faith in me," said Carpentier, whose best finish of 1997 was second place at Gateway International Raceway. "I believe this is the best move for my career development, since Player's devotes a lot of time and attention to creating the best possible environment for their drivers, both on and off the track." For third-year driver Greg Moore, who hails from Maple Ridge, British Columbia, the arrival of a new teammate marks an important step in the team's championship aspirations. "Patrick and I came in together (in 1995) with the Player's DDP and we have always had a good relationship," he said. "I am confident that we will feed off each other and with our Reynard/Mercedes/Firestone package, we should be in front of the pack consistently next season." The decision to add a second car to its CART operations has brought a new focus to the Player's Driver Development Program. After fielding teams at the Indy Lights and Atlantic levels last season, Player's has opted to remain active in only one development series for open-wheel racing in 1998. The Indy Lights team, which was a Forsythe operation in 1995 and 1996, will be discontinued, but the Atlantic program will continue with two familiar drivers. The pairing for the 1998 Player's Atlantic Team will be made up of Canadians Alex Tagliani and Lee Bentham who finished fifth in the overall standings as a rookie in Indy Lights and was runner-up to Patrick Carpentier in the Atlantic series in 1996. The new structure means that David Empringham and Bertrand Godin, who have given Canadian fans a lot to cheer about over the years, won't be back behind the wheel of a Player's car next season. However, they have both been offered tremendous opportunities to pursue new careers in motorsport, including within the Player's DDP if they are so inclined. Player's will make an announcement about its slate of partially-funded drivers in the next couple of months.

Rahal will field Reynard Ford Cosworth Indy cars on Firestone tires for himself and teammate Bryan Herta in next year's 19-race PPG Cup campaign. Since the formation of the FIA World Rally Championship in 1973 the event's international reputation has always been strong. As the RAC is one of the country's major sporting events, many cities and towns including London, Birmingham, Bath, York, Chester, Cheltenham, Harrogate and Nottingham are eager to host the rally. Expect fans to be in excess of two million to watch local favourites like Colin McRae, who loves nothing better than living on the edge, race for the RAC win and possibly a championship win as well. But since the event took to the forests, Scandinavian drivers have dominated, only Britain's Roger Clark (twice), Carlos Sainz (once) and Colin McRae (twice) have managed to beat the Finns and Swedes. The entry list is extensive with 163 entrants and over 30 reserves. The RAC is likely to be a four way fight between motor manufacturing giants Subaru, Mitsubishi, Ford, and the still unproven Toyota WRC Corolla. But most interest will be focused on the battle between Colin McRae and Tommi Makinen. Team Mitsubishi Ralliart is poised to win the crown and Tommi is the odds-on favourite to become World Rally Champion for the second year in a row. Makinen has four wins already this year and a near - unbeatable points lead as he prepares for the RAC. He will be World Champion provided he finishes in the top six and scores just one point, but if Colin McRae fails to win the rally, Makinen is automatically champion. With much of the United Kingdom behind Colin he'll be pushing it all the way. And according to Colin himself ..... "Just a couple of events ago it was hard to think we'd be in a position to be fighting for the World Championship on the final round," said Colin, "but if there was anywhere I'd rather do it, the RAC Rally is obviously the event that favours me most. It's not going to be easy though; we've got to win and Tommi (Makinen) has got to be out of the points. Even then, it would go down to a tie-break on points and we would win by having five victories over Tommi's four, so I'm under no illusion that a straight victory will clinch it. While Tommi's attitude is somewhat different .... "Of course it's going to be difficult, because the RAC is a tough rally, but I don't think it is going to be a problem. It is just a question of concentrating and making sure that we finish," said Makinen. Pretpostavljam da su predvideli takve pojedinosti, inače će nava pravila postati glupost i farsa... :( BTW, gledah na TV-u neku emisiju u kojoj su prikazali tatu & sina Stewart kako voze svoje nove bolide za 1998 godinu, i primetio sam da te gume imaju mnogo više šara nego što sam mislio da će imati (ako sam dobro primetio, šare su locirane samo na unutrašnjoj polovoini pneumatika). Takođe, primećuje se na prvi pogled da su bolidi uži i "igličastiji".

Alberto Puig announces he withdraw from active competition Alberto Puig convened today the entire Spanish pree to make public his plans in the sporting arena, after a long exposition which can be summed up in his conviction that at this time he does not have the guarantees needed to partecipate in the 1998 World Championship with clear prospects of success. As he explained: "I've lead an intense life in the world of competition which has prolonged itself ever since I have the use reason. As you all know, I began in disciplines other than racing and I always managed to do quite well, specially in Trial and Supermotorad. But the last few years I have dedicated them to racing. I have fought to have the best possible conditions to compete with the maximum chances of success and at some point or other I have measured my possibilities against the best. After my full on the circuit of Le Mans, everything has become a lot more difficult for me. I have to admit that I have not reached the objectives I had set out to accomplish in my sporting career but I do not feel I am a looser. Neither would anyone who concentrates all of his physical and physical means on an objective. The last two years have been very hard and I am satisfied that despite the fact that the results have not been forthcoming, I have never faltered. I have been fortunate enought to have close to me people of great personal and professional worth, and I am thankful for that. My family has been at my side with their support through the worst of time. Almost all of the press has shown me respect. I think I have left a few good memories an all of the teams. I have been in and without exception I will keep good memories of them all, on a personal level and as a team. This has not been an easy decision to make because I'm still at an age where anything is possible. The possibility to continue in active racing does not seduce me because I am sure I would not enjoy myself in the new circumstances. That is why I have made what is the most honest decision for me: to not continue. Some people will wonder what made me loose my competitive edge at a high point between the testing in Jerez and the race at Mugello, a mere fifteen days apart. I still do not know and this has actually hastened my decision. From now all of yesterday goes backstage and I now look ahead to what is to come with renewed spirits." Patrick Racing Completes First Test Of New Reynard CART Online (November 25) -- Patrick Racing driver Scott Pruett recently completed his first test of the off-season in the team's new 1998 Reynard 98I chassis at Sebring last week. After being rained out November 13 and 14, the team tested last Monday and Tuesday at Sebring International Raceway. Pruett (Patrick Racing Reynard Ford) pronounced himself pleased with the new Reynard's performance. "It is very driver- and mechanic-friendly," he said. "This first test was virtually problem-free. There isn't a huge performance gain in the car over last year, but the biggest thing with Reynard is the process of evolution. The whole process and the way they go about it shows Reynard's dedication and determination to stay on top by continually refining, designing and developing new parts." Jim McGee, Patrick Racing general manager, saw more of a performance gain in the new Reynard during Pruett's test. "They made a big improvement in the systems area, and the aerodynamic configuration has also been improved," McGee said. "Scott was the only one in the '98 Reynard and he was about one second quicker than anyone else at Sebring." Pruett's new teammate, Adrian Fernandez (Tecate/Quaker State Reynard Ford), ran a '97 Reynard during his first test with the Patrick team. "This was one of the most productive tests I have ever had from both the technical and driving standpoint," said Fernandez, who joined Patrick Racing last month after two years with the Tasman Motorsports Group. "I really ran a lot of miles. I like working with the whole team, especially John [Ward, chief engineer] and Scott. Scott and I worked well together. We exchanged a lot of ideas and information. I am looking forward to working with the team and I think this season is shaping up to be the most successful in my career."

Da mi je sad da do'vatim onog ko je pricao da ce ucestvovati Schumacher, Coulthard, Trulli i ostala kompanija, pa da ga lepo isprebijam... ;)) elem, od f1 kompanije bili su Salo, Lamy, Herbert, Fontana i Villeneuve. Mozda i jos neko ali se ne secam... kad malo razmislim, kad se culo da ce Zanardi da ucestvuje svi su se u**ali pa nisu ni dosli ;). Auu, imam jos 2 minuta za danas... ajde na brzinu: Zanardi je startovao kao drugi, ispred njega je bio neki italijan iz IRL sampionata... naravno, gde neki irl lik moze da zaustavi velikog Zanardija.. AZ je u 9. krugu postavio najbrzi krug da bi zatim 2,3 kruga kasnije spektakularno :) obisao tog italijana i pobedio za 0.3 prednosti! Sve sam snimao na kasetu! E, kakva trka (strasna trka ;))). Sta im je Zanardi radio, ono je totaly anbilivbl! :)) Ko nije snimao moze odmah da ode da se ubije.. U polufinalu je (az, naravno) startovao sesti da bi se posle jadnog :) starta do kraja dogurao do cetvrtog mesta... za to vreme Mika Salo je kao prvi iskoristio prednost clear roada ispred i iza sebe i pobedio... AZ je stalno bio u nekoj guzvi... u finalu AZ krece kao sedmi ili osmi, zaboravio sam.. u svakom slucaju dogurao se do cetvrtog mesta i bio najbrzi covek na stazi :)) Trebalo je videti taj finis... prolaze prva trojica kroz cilj... zatim mala pauza... i odjednom Zanardi i jos neka dvojica skoro bez kocenja ulaze u cilj i udaraju u barijere ispred... :)))) cak je i Edwards navijao za Zanardija... sve vreme ga je hvalio kako god je znao i umeo.. :)) Covece, ni deset M.Schumachera mu nisu ravni...

Yamaha withdraws big offer to Doohan The Yamaha factory team has withdrawn its offer to four-time 500cc world champion Mick Doohan for the 1998 grand prix season. Yamaha team boss Wayne Rainey, himself a three-time champion rider, said that time had run out for Doohan to accept a reported package of up to $10 million to switch from Honda. "We had put everything in place that Mick wanted, including the budget, but there was a time limit," Rainey said from his home in Monterey, California. "That time has now gone." It is believed that Rainey's deadline was last Monday, the day after the Czech Grand Prix, which Doohan won for his 11th victory of the season, equalling the record for the most wins in a season set by Giacomo Agostini of Italy in 1972. The withdrawal of Yamaha's offer appears to leave the way clear for Doohan to formally extend his deal with Honda into a 10th season. The Suzuki team had also made Doohan an offer, although team manager Garry Taylor dismissed speculation about a $16.5 million bid as "fanciful". "I made Mick what I believe was a very good offer, but it seems that it wasn't enough. I haven't heard from him," Taylor said. It has long been expected that Honda were prepared to outbid any offer from Yamaha or Suzuki for Doohan. "If I make something real of the Honda deal it will make the others look like pocket money," Doohan said at the recent British Grand Prix. The president of the Honda Racing Corporation has reportedly scheduled a visit to next week's grand prix in Barcelona to formerly announce his team for next season, having already retained the services of Spanish star Alex Criville. Rainey said he would now move to his second option and also announce his riders in Barcelona, with Frenchman and former motocross world champion Jean Michel Bayle tipped to be at the top of his shopping list. The Yamaha boss conveyed his decision on Doohan to his biographer Michael Scott. Scott's report of Rainey's move is outlined in the latest issue of Australian Motorcycle News.

British backed team announces take-over of Tyrrell LONDON (Dec 2, 1997 - 11:17 EST) - Formula One team Tyrrell have been taken over by a new constructor, British American Racing, it was announced on Tuesday. The new team, a joint venture between British American Tobacco, Reynard Racing Cars and Jacques Villeneuve's manager Craig Pollock, will contest the 1999 world championship. Villeneuve, who took the title after a controversial finish with Michael Schumacher in Spain in October, is expected to drive for the new team, with his Williams contract ending at the end of the 1998 season. The move was welcomed by Bernie Ecclestone, the vice-president of Formula One's ruling body the FIA. "British American Tobacco has been deeply involved in motor sport for many years and I warmly welcome their return to Formula One," he said.

JJ Lehto Joins Hogan Racing For 1998 CART Season CART Online (December 4) -- Finland's JJ Lehto, a 31-year-old veteran of Formula One and FIA GT competition, will turn to CART competition in 1998 as the new driver for Hogan Racing's Reynard Mercedes-Benz which will ride on Firestone tires. The announcement was made Thursday by team owner Carl Hogan. "We are pleased to develop a relationship with a driver of JJ's talent and professionalism," Hogan said. "Our agreement with JJ allows Hogan Racing to be competitive for 1998 and beyond." Lehto, born in Espoo, Finland, began go-kart racing at the age of six. His extensive racing career includes five years of Formula One where he was considered a rising star before a pre-1994 season accident hampered his progress. In 1991 he earned his first podium finish (third at San Marino) and from 1992 through 1994, Lehto had 19 top ten finishes in F1. Most recently, Lehto drove for BMW in the FIA GT Championship where he finished second in the point standings and was rated the top driver by AutoSport Magazine. Lehto won four of 11 races: Hockenheim, Helsinki, Spa-Francorchamps and Mugello, but ultimately lost the title to Bernd Schneider and Mercedes-Benz in the finale at Laguna Seca in October. In total, Lehto had four third place finishes for eight podium results overall. "I am excited to be joining Hogan Racing and the CART series," Lehto said. "Having tested with Hogan Racing, I am impressed with their approach to developing the car and team. I am confident that we can be a successful team." Lehto and his wife Satu, along with their two daughters, Julia (3) and Johanna (9 months), plan to reside in the United States during the season.

Zanardi Tests New Firstone Rain Tires ------------------------------------------------------------ Intense rain tire tests witnessed in the desert By Peter Burke The conditions during this tire test last week yesterday were excellent. About 78 degrees, sunny skies, no wind. For two days in a row, Zanardi would come out for long stints compared to dry testing at this track. He did about 15 lap stints every time with the water truck coming and re-wetting the track almost every time. The team did very little setup changes to the car, basically they only changed the tires and off he went! During the time we observed the test, he did about 5 stints in just one hour. They were working the champion like a dog! Tire testing isn't fun. However - while Zanardi was shredding these wet laps in the sun, Mark Blundell had to stand around in a warehouse at the Las Vegas COMDEX show, posing next to his engine-less Motorola show car, surrounded by thousands of geeks who mostly ignored him, or kept asking "who drives that car there?" Blundell arrived at Firebird a day after Zanardi to recover from his PR duties among the computer nerds his employer was trying to impress... Zanardi ran these tests on the "West Track" at Firebird, while most dry test sessions are held on the eastern, less twisty track. The photos we have clearly show that the tires tested had three significant grooves around the circumference of the tire. The comparision photo below shows that previous designs didn't have these grooves. Interestingly, Goodyear had such grooves before moving to a chevron design closer to Firestone's near the end of the '97 season. During Zanardi's tests, the Players truck was also there. Our reporter Ramon Avila heard them run, but whenever he got to the track, of course they had stopped (and Ramon's lunch hour was long over...). Unfortunately he was unable to determine if Carpentier was already testing for Players, although they were there for a full three days. We are also still waiting for one of the first '98 cars to show up - Fernandez didn't run at Firebird last week, although cart.com had reported he would be there. We'll keep our cameras loaded with film to be first to publish some of the '98 designs. SpeedCenter also hopes to be able to attend the Laguna Seca test in mid December, when the new Penske cars may be seen for the first time.

Fernandez Hurts Ankle ------------------------------------------------------------ Will be out of car for 4 weeks This report is based on a Quaker State press release dated Nov. 26 Patrick Racing driver Adrian Fernandez suffered an injury to his left ankle when he was visiting his mother in Mexico City. He fell down some stairs and suffered a 'scratch to a bone.' Fernandez said: "This is one of my worst accidents in 10 years" He regrets this accident happened in such a "ridiculous way" - he wasn't even in a car or working out. Fernandez commented: "This mishap is very bad for me because I was about to test the brand new '98 Reynard at the next Phoenix practice session. I hope to get well soon to be able as soon as possible to be back on the track." Doctors at the hospital in Mexico City said he needed an ankle operation but Adrian got in contact Dr. Terry Tramwell in the US who advised against the surgery. Instead he will use a tough bandage, combined with rehabilitation exercises. Adrian will continue with his physical training to try to be back with his normal live in few days.

Još uvek pokušavam da prevaziđem neke probleme sa podupravljivošću bolida, ali uveren sam da će do trke sve biti na svom mestu." Mihael Šumaher: "Planirao sam da uđem među prvoplasirana tri vozača, tako da sam srećan što sam u tome uspeo. Iako bolid još uvek nije na onom nivou kakav smo planirali i očekivali, ipak je mnogo bolji nego prethodne sezone. Na testiranjima smo mogli videti da su McLareni izuzetno brzi, tako da smo i očekivali da će se plasirati ispred nas. Visoka temperatura ne bi trebala da bude problem, čak ni za gume. Znamo da smo još uvek po performansama iza Bridgestone (koje koristi McLaren), ali Goodyear je postigao zavidan progres od januara naovamo. Napravili smo izvesne kompromise kod setapa bolida tako da neće biti tragedija ako ne pobedim sutra. Ipak, realno očekujem da se popnem na podijum - možda jesmo iza McLarena ali smo ipak ispred ostalih timova po performansama. Čak i sa novim pneumaticima, naša vremena su bolja nego prošlogodišnja!" Žak Vilnev: "Izgubili smo nešto vremena kada smo menjali bolid tokom kvalifikacija, pošto sam imao nekih problema sa tehnikom. Konačno smo uspeli da podesimo bolid kako treba pre mog poslednjeg izlaska na stazu tako da sam uspeo da uhvatim četvrtu poziciju. Ne brine me previše Šumaher. Naravno da bih voleo da sam u prvom startnom redu, ali prošle godine smo imali pol poziciju sa više od sekunde prednosti pa opet nismo uspeli da osvojimo ni jedan poen. Sačekajmo sutra pa ćemo videti šta će biti ove godine." Džoni Herbert: "Došao sam ovde u nadi da ću se plasirati među prvih šest vozača, tako da sam oduševljen petim mestom. Ceo tim je odradio fantastičan posao danas. Novi C17 ima odlične vozne karakteristike, jako dobar odziv na komande volana, a i aerodinamika je jako unapređena. Moja prethodne dve trke u Australiji završile su se već u prvim krugovima, ali ne brinem zbog toga. Sutra idem na dobru završnicu jer moj tim to objektivno zaslužuje i može. H.H. Frencen: "Razočaran sam što sam se plasirao lošije od Žaka a naročito zbog tolikog zaostatka iza Meklarena. Većinu vremena gubio sam u poslednjoj trećini staze. Dao sam sve od sebe da distignem Žaka ali na žalost bisam uspeo. Iznenađen sam sa ukupnim vremenima svih bolida, jer sam očekivao da će vremena biti mnogo slabija nakon svih ovih izmena na bolidima, uključujući i rezbarene gume." Đankarlo Fizikela: "Tokom prepodneva uspeo sam da nađem odličan setap za bolid, ali visoka temperatura tokom kvalifikacija donela je neke neočekivane probleme sa preupravljivošću. Pokušali smo da nađeme rešenje ali taman kada smo mislili da imamo pravi setap, na stazi je odjednom bila strahovita gužva. Mislim da sam mogao da popravim vreme bar za dve ili tri desetinke da sam imao relativno čistu stazu pred sobom." Edi Irvajn: "Ponovo sam imao problem sa motorom, da nije bilo toga bio bih daleko brži. Ipak, rešićemo problem do početka trke, tako da ne brinem oko toga. Obzirom da ovde nisam previše trenirao sa malom količinom goriva, trebalo mi je nešto vremena da se priviknem na ponašanje bolida na stazi i nađem njegove granice. Sutra će glavni problem kod svih bolida biti pouzdanost, tako da možete očekivati mnoga iznenađenja." Ralf Šumaher: "Mislim da smo mogli da budemo malo brži ali ne toliko da bi se naš poredak bitnije popravio. Bolid se ponaša prilično dobro, ali nisam baš zadovoljan podatkom da smo 2 sekunde iza prvoplasiranog." Dejmon Hil: "Mislim da smo se plasirali upravo onako kako sam i očekivao nakon testoranja. Zaista ćemo morati da izvršimo neka poboljšanja na bolidu da bi mogli da se plasiramo među prvih šest pozivija. Ipak, faktori koji utiču na ishod trke su mnogo drugačiji od onih na kvalifikacijama, tako da verujem da ćemo sigurno završiti trku sa osvojenim poenima, što bi bio sasvim dobar start sezone." Aleksander Vurc: "Zadnji točak se blokirao tako da sam se okrenuo na stazi. Morao sam da odradim kvalifikacije u rezervnom bolidu podešenom za Đankarla koji je naknadno, na brzinu podešen za mene. Setap mi baš i nije odgovarao previše, ali eto uspeo sam da uhvatim 11. poziciju. Ipak, setap za trku će biti potpuno drugačiji pa očekujem da će i moje performanse biti mnogo drugačije nego što ste videli na kvalifikacijama." Žan Alezi: "Moj problem je celog vikenda bio setap. Celo pre podne sam pokušavao da podesim bolid kako treba, ali nisam uspeo. Jednostavno nisam zadovoljan sa ukupnim balansom bolida." Taranosuke Takagi: "Jako sam zadovoljan rezultatom obzirom da je ovo moja prva trka u Formuli 1. Takođe, da sam bio samo malo brži, bio bih plasiran među prvih deset vozača. Jako sam zadovoljan današnjim setapom mog Tirel-Forda. Imam poverenja u bolid nakon mnogih testova koje sam obavio sam njim tokom zime. Sada se moramo koncentrisati na sutrašnju trku kako bi izvukli maksimum naših mogućnosti." Rubens Baričelo: "Šta da kažem nakon svih ovoh problema koji su nas pratili? Srećan sam što sam se uopšte kvalifikovao, obzirom da sam imao samo 15 minuta na raspolaganju. Uradio sam sve što se realno moglo uraditi pod ovim okolnostima. Očigledno, 14. pozicija nije baš najbolji način da se počne jedna sezona, ali šta možemo."

Da, da, to sam mislio da napišem, odakle RTS, nemam pojma :)) Inače na Internetu (za one sa brzim linkom) može se pratiti RTL (Eurosport, TV5, CNN ...) na adresi www.rodajc.nl, tj. moglo je do pre 3 dana, danas sam probao i izgleda da nešto rade na stranici. Biće bolje :)

Zar bi se ikad desilo Šumaheru ili Hilu da uđu u box, a da mehaničari zaborave na njega :) To su upravo sitnice koje odvajaju odlične vozače od šampiona. A Kultard bi mogao da bude šampion sa ovim bolidom, samo kad bi ga malo više podržavali.

Salu na stranu, teska srca moram da priznam da je trka bez Svabe dosadna. I ako sam ga do skora mrzeo iz dna duse (prvenstveno zbog Hila) sve vise mi je gotivan. Jeste "prljav" ali ipak on daje stimung GP-u.

Mislim da se svi ostali timovi sad pitaju šta ih je snašlo. Trećeplasirani kasni za ceo krug ?!? Strašno. Gledajući po prethonim vremenima (petak, subota) Šumaher bi bio jedni koga ne bi obišli za ceo krug, samo, 'šteta' zbog defekta. Inače, organizatori ove trke su se žalili svetskoj organizaciji F1, zbog načina na koji je Mika Hakinen pobedio. Kažu da su mnoge pare izgubljene, jer oni koji su se kladili na Kultrada, sada stežu vrat organizatorima trke.
