Florence Griffith Joyner Dies Of Seizure
LONDON (Reuters) - American sprinter Florence Griffith Joyner has died
at the age of 38 of a heart seizure, friends said Monday.
Griffith Joyner, who won three Olympic gold medals at the 1988 Seoul
Olympics, died Monday morning at her home. She was married with a daughter.
Former world 110 meters hurdles champion and friend Greg Foster
told Reuters: ``She died at her home in Laguna Beach, California,
this morning. It's an apparent seizure. She had one a couple of years ago.
``She was one of the greatest sprinters ever, male or female,'' he added.
Flo-Jo, as Griffith Joyner was popularly known, set world records for the
100 and 200 meters in 1988, breaking the 200 mark twice at the Seoul.
``Those records are going to last for another decade,'' said U.S. Track
and Field Association official Tom Serber.
Griffith Joyner, whose trademark was her long, brightly-colored fingernails,
suffered a seizure on a plane flight in the U.S. in 1996 and was admitted
to hospital then. ``We will never see her kind again,'' Serber added.
``Flo-Jo was one of the most special athletes we have ever seen,
for her speed, her grace, her beauty,'' he added.
Her golden treble at the Seoul Games was in the 100, 200 and 4x100 meters
relay. Foster said her sister-in-law Jackie Joyner-Kersee, a fellow Olympic
champion, and her husband Bob were flying to California from St Louis.
Florence Griffith Joyner
Griffith Joyner, (Delorez) Florence (1959-1998 ), American track athlete,
born in Los Angeles, California, and educated at the University of
California at Los Angeles (UCLA). She grew up in Los Angeles,
began running track at the age of 7, and at 14 won the Jesse Owens National
Youth Games. She enrolled at California State University (1979) to train
with the renowned Bob Kersee, then followed him to UCLA. After winning
a silver medal in the 200-meter dash in the 1984 Olympics, she went into
semiretirement. She returned to competition in 1987, taking second place
at the World Championship Games in Rome. After rigorous training she made
a highly dramatic comeback in the trials for the 1988 Olympic Games.
Her prowess, along with her glamour and eye-catching clothes, made "Flojo"
a media sensation and one of the highest-paid sports figures in the world.
In 1988, at the Olympic Games in Seoul, she won gold medals in the 100- and
200-meter races and in the 400-meter relay; she took the silver in the
1600-meter relay. Since then she has devoted her time to commercial
enterprises, writing, and modeling. In 1989 she announced her retirement
from track, although she continued to coach her husband, Al Joyner,
a champion jumper whom she married in 1987.

UA NARKOMANI !
Ovaj podsetnik je trebalo da ide u biznis=lova / doping a ne u
sport.atletika. Atletika je kraljica, a ne dzojner ili neka
statijaznam mikoren-zensen steroid-hormonrasta-testosteron bilderka.
Zbog ovakvih mi, talentovani sportisti ne mozemo da isplivamo na
povrsinu i davimo se u njihovoj slavi ili odustajemo od sporta.
Ozbiljno predlazem da se uvede olimpijada za dopingovane. Pa ko
voli nek izvoli. Ako hoce neka uzimaju i strihnin, legalno naravno,
pa neka trce 100m za 6 sekundi (zene, ako se TO moze tako nazvati).
Bilo bi publike, verujem, vise nego za obicnu olimpijadu.
