cadua.1 mcgera,
cadua.3 zsiz,

cadua.4 meda,
Uz ovu poruku dobijate kratak prikaz AutoCAD Data Extension (ADE). AutoCAD Data Extension (ADE) For AutoCAD Release 12 We could all use connections like this. What if you could access the data in all your AutoCAD drawings at the same time-without compromising system performance? Suppose you could quickly extract and consolidate just the data you need into a new drawing, which could then be customized for specific applications. And what if you could do all this while someone else works with the same drawings. ARCHITECTURE, ENGINEERING AND CONSTRUCTION Coordinate projects more easily, increase accuracy and shorten turnaround time by providing simultaneous access to interrelated drawings (architectural, structural, electrical, HVAC) and producing custom or simplified drawings for team members and subcontractors. MAPPING, GIS AND INFRA STRUCTURE Assist project management and planing by displaying content- or location- specific portions of large maps or multiple drawings, and applying ADE mapping and drawing customization tools. MECHANICAL DESIGN Increase efficiency by managing all mechanical engineering and design processes concurrently. Extract and consolidate data from multiple layout and 2D component drawings, and provide drafters, designers and engineers simultaneous access to same drawings. FACILITIES MANAGEMENT Take control-and full advantage-of the wealth of data in multiple AutoCAD drawings to plan reconfigurations, track and maintain assets, and provide custom drawings for subcontractors. PROCESS AND POWER INDUSTRIES Ensure accurate and timely plant maintenance by quickly retrieving relevant data from all P&IDs, plot plants, piping arrangements and related EED or linked data bases to create custom plots. TREAT MANY DRAWINGS AS THOUGH THEY WERE ONE With ADE software, you can extract and combine drawing data from many sources - AutoCAD drawing entities, attribute information, related external database information-in a single session, without additional hardware, without degrading system performance. The first time you apply the ADE OPEN command to an AutoCAD drawing, ADE software creates an index for it based on entity location and AutoCAD properties. When you open multiple drawings, ADE simply "activates" these indexes, so you can systematically access data across all the open drawings. With this indexing system, the ADE QUERY command can efficiently search through gigabytes of drawing file data to quickly access the information you need. EXTRACT JUST INFORMATION YOU NEED Intuitive dialog boxes guide even novice AutoCAD users painlessly through the ADE QUERY command. Simply click on a list of search criteria for ADE, such as location (within circles, polygons, windows, etc.), AutoCAD properties (color, layer, thickness, block name, polyline area, etc.), EED (extended entity data) or external database information. You can combine and modify search criteria and save complex or frequent queries for later use. CREATE CUSTOM DRAWINGS FOR SPECIFIC USES, EDITING OR ANALYSIS As you access and consolidate selected information, you can use ADE to customize your composite drawing, emphasizing specific drawing elements by changing color, line width or other attributes. You can make a global change to a set of drawings based on entity properties or attached data. Or use ADE to explore and refine design and layout options or client presentations. MULTIUSER ACCESS TO DRAWINGS ADE software allows multiple users simultaneous read-and- write access to the same drawing files, with built-in safeguards to control user access and editing. Entity locking, administrative control over drawing access and AutoCAD software's layer-locking feature prevent accidental overwrites and unauthorized editing. While many users can work concurrently on the same drawings, ADE ensures that each entity can only be edited by one user at a time. ADE software's administrative controls include options for password assignment and control over the level of access individual users have to drawings. ADE is also fully compatible with most network and database file security systems. YOU CAN HAVE IT ALL NOW: FASTER, BETTER, MORE INTELLIGENT DRAWINGS ADE works with AutoCAD Release 12 and your existing AutoCAD Release 12 or Release 11 drawings-no file conversion, no labor intensive data preparation. And ADE drawing productivity tools actually enhance the design and drafting work you've done in AutoCAD. ADE drawing cleanup features detect and clean up digitizing errors, locate and eliminate duplicate entities, break lines at the point of intersection and eliminate excessive detail in polylines (line generalization). With ADE software's rubbersheeting feature, you can easily align multiple drawings by "stretching" them to match edges, lines and points. ADE software's database interface is an efficient and easy-to- use tool for linking AutoCAD entities to graphical and nongraphical information in external databases and for accessing and manipulating linked data. You can create links between AutoCAD entities and database records, or access database records from AutoCAD by selecting linked entities. Drawing entities can be linked to items ranging from tabular data and spreadsheets to videos and animations. Even complex SQL (structured query language) statements are easy to construct with the ADE SQL Builder dialog box. SPEED IS MORE THAN COMPUTING TIME ADE. It's about time. And accessibility. ADE software gives you more comprehensive, more direct, more flexible access to your AutoCAD drawings, which translates directly into spending less time to accomplish your goals. And the program itself is easy to access. It's easy to learn and easy to use, and it works with existing data, so you spend less time ramping up (and more time saving time). AutoCAD Files Accepted Here-No Conversion Required Because ADE works with your existing AutoCAD Release 12 and Release 11 files and external databases-exactly as they are in your computer right now-you have immediate access to the benefits of ADE software. (Or convert any CAD drawing into DXF format-ADE can work with that, too.) Haven't You Seen This Face Somewhere Before? ADE appears as a menu item in AutoCAD Release 12, and uses AutoCAD command syntax, dialog boxes and terminology. That means minimal training for AutoCAD users. In fact, ADE software's dialog-box, checklist approach makes it very accessible even for new or infrequent AutoCAD users. What's Behind the Curtain Does Not Matter The ADE interface provides easy access to the wealth of data contained in AutoCAD drawings-and you don't have to know a thing about AutoCAD to get to it. Even users who are completely unfamiliar with AutoCAD can step through simple dialog-box instructions to access whatever drawing, EED and external database information they need. Streamline Computing Time ADE activates AutoCAD drawings but physically brings into the drawing editor only those portions you specify. Remaining portions of the drawings and associated databases don't draw on system resources. When you use ADE software to bring a subset of drawing information into the drawing editor, it's usually faster than working on a single AutoCAD drawing in its entirety. Cut to the Quick ADE gives you access to the vast amount of data in your AutoCAD drawings, then quickly cuts through it to locate just the information you need. The time savings is tremendous. Previously, this kind of data search might have required hours of consolidating and sorting trough information from different drawings individually to find the right information. What was potentially overwhelming is now a fast, efficient query away. You Get the Picture ADE software delivers precisely the information you need, then provides tools for customizing drawings to graphically emphasize ideas for you or your audience. Whether you're reviewing options yourself or trying to sell an idea to someone else, with ADE you spend less time gathering data, so that you can make more informed decisions, faster. Sharing the Wealth of Information-Selectively No more information overload. ADE software lets you isolate portions of drawing data, making it easier to share information with other team members or clients. Both electronic files and hard-copy reports are more manageable and often more effective when focused on a specific application or data set. Sharing the Work Load Using ADE to coordinate individual activities in team projects speeds up turnaround time and improves quality and overall group performance. Because teams can work concurrently from the same source drawings (without extensive restructuring) , preparation and total project time are reduced. Team members can access and view other drawing layers, so drawings match more closely. Consolidation of layers is much smoother, too, especially with the drawing cleanup tools in ADE software. ADE. ISN'T ABOUT TIME? With ADE, you'll spend less time gathering data and eliminating irrelevant data. Less time waiting to access drawings someone else has. Less time preparing for and coordinating team projects. Less time getting decisions made and less time turning projects around. Which, of course, translates into more time to take on new projects and more time to perfect your designs. It's an entirely new way to work with AutoCAD software. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS AutoCAD Release 12 -IBM-compatible PC with Windows 3.1 or MS-DOS, or Sun Solaris SPARCstation -1MB of hard-disk space (min.) ; additional space for index files -8MB RAM (recommended) -Additional memory improves performance. cadua.5 sceka,
SO PROJEKTANTI DA VAS CUJEMO Pozdrav sceka,CADUA
cadua.6 bobby.quyne,
I kona~no posle, u principu, OK putovanja i mnogobrojnih carina stigao sam u Brno. DUCT i ArtCAM su programi iz iste ku}e i me|usobno odli~no sara|uju. CADUA Smederevska Palanka

cadua.10 meda,
Iz najnovijeg broja specijalizovanog casopisa CADENCE (novembar '94.), prenosimo vam clanak kako instalirati AutoCAD u mreznom okruzenju. Autor je Ken Billing. AutoCAD Network Installation Ken Billing Companies are networking every application imaginable these days, but controversy still surrounds networking the AutoCAD program. People who have heard of or experienced poor installations help fuel the controversy by discouraging others from installing AutoCAD on their file servers. I wish I had a dollar for every AutoCAD network I've seen that has been incorrectly set up. Part of this problem is with AutoCAD itself. AutoCAD is a very complex and large application that makes tremendous demands on system resources, including disk, memory, processor, video, and I/O. Because AutoCAD is so configurable, there are numerous ways to tune its performance, many of which should be employed when installing the software on a network file server. Conditions exist in a network configuration that greatly impact program loading time, response time, and functionality that aren't applicable in a standalone environment. It is the quality of these factors that creates network horror stories. To properly install and configure AutoCAD, you should use the following guidelines. Space doesn't permit me to delve into network specific parameters, file permissions, or related areas, such as network plotting or drawing vault organization in this issue. But if you follow these steps, you will at least end up with the program executing as quickly as possible. Your mileage will vary, depending on your network operating system, file server configuration, workstation configurations, and other factors. Step 1: Begin by logging onto the network with system administrator privileges, and decide where in your directory structure you want to install the software. Keep in mind that you will need to tailor your users' file privileges in the directory structure that the AutoCAD installation program will create. Make a directory to store the AutoCAD executables, such as ACAD12. Then create shareable subdirectories below ACAD12 that the installation program will not create. One directory is necessary to hold the AutoCAD password file if you elect to make the executable directory read-only. Name this directory something like Acadpwd. Make another directory to hold plot spool files named Spfiles. Step 2: Launch the Install utility from your distribution diskettes. Complete the personalization information, select the installation options you desire, and specify the installation directory that you created in the last step. Let the installation program copy its files to your file server's hard disk. Up to this point, nothing you have done will affect AutoCAD's performance. Step 3: Run the cfigphar utility, which resides in your AutoCAD executable directory. You only need to perform this step once after installing the program files. Running this utility will modify the AutoCAD executable's Virtual Memory Manager (VMM) to direct virtual memory files to the workstations' local hard disks, rather than to the file server (the default). With cfigphar, you want to modify both the -swapdir and -nopagexp settings. For the -swapdir setting, enter a directory name-c:Đacadnet, for example-that will exist on every networked AutoCAD user's hard disk to hold the VMM swap files along with others you will specify later. Without this setting, AutoCAD will attempt to create virtual memory page files in the root directory of the drive where the program resides (the root of the file server hard disk), which is typically off limits to user files. The network traffic caused by the frequent writing and reading of these files (possibly several per user) is the largest contributing factor to slow AutoCAD network performance. Redirecting these files to the user's hard disk causes this function to be equivalent to a standalone installation. The local swap file directory must exist on the local hard disk before executing AutoCAD or an error will occur. Set the -nopagexp switch to On. This switch forces AutoCAD to read executable code pages from the ACAD.EXE file on the file server and to write unused pages to the swap file located in the previous step. By default, AutoCAD discards unused pages and rereads them as needed from the server, adding to network traffic. Setting this switch further restricts network traffic to the local hard disk and improves response. Before you finish with cfigphar, also be sure that the -demload switch is set, which is the default. Demand loading causes AutoCAD to only read as much of the executable as necessary to initialize the drawing editor and to defer loading other portions until needed by various commands. As you exit cfigphar, have the utility create CONF386.BAT when it prompts you. Run the batch file once to make your modifications permanent. See Appendix E of the AutoCAD Installation and Performance Guide for more information on these settings. Step 4: Modify the ACAD386.BAT file to reflect network and local drive locations. The Install program will create environment-variable settings that assume all file locations will be on the server. Change the acadcfg environment variable to point to the local AutoCAD directory you created in the Step 3, c:Đacadnet. When you first configure AutoCAD from each workstation, the ACAD.CFG file will be placed here. This placement allows each user to have individual peripheral devices and preferences. Also add the Acadnet directory to the ACAD environment variable path if you want AutoCAD to search there for local menu and other support files such as temporary blocks. Add an acadplcmd variable setting if you will be using the Autospool mechanism (which I highly recommend doing). Move the ACAD386.BAT file to a public directory, which will be on each users' DOS path once they have logged in, or leave the file in the AutoCAD directory and add the directory to the DOS path. Place ADI driver variable settings such as dspadi and dgpadi in each user's AUTOEXEC.BAT file as necessary. ACAD386.BAT should now be applicable to every networked AutoCAD workstation. Step 5: Configure the first workstation. First, make sure that the CONFIG.SYS contains a Buffers statement of at least 60. Reboot the workstation and log on to the network. Invoke the ACAD386 file to launch AutoCAD for the first time. If you receive an "out of environment space" error message, add a Shell statement to enlarge the memory allocation. See your DOS documentation or the Installation and Performance guide for more information. AutoCAD should report that it has not yet been configured and will automatically begin the hardware configuration routine. Specify the correct hardware settings, then continue when prompted to enter a default login name for AutoCAD (not your network login). This name will be used in messages to other users attempting to open files locked by this workstation. Enter a period if the workstation will be used by several persons. You will be prompted next for your AutoCAD server authorization information. This step should also be performed only once. First, enter the number of licenses you purchased as the maximum number of users. When prompted if you would like to run the executable from a read-only directory, respond "yes." When prompted for a directory for server temporary files, enter the Acadpwd directory path from Step 1. Enter a password to protect the server authorization when prompted in this option only under the strictest security conditions. Lastly, enter your authorization code number when prompted. The configuration information you enter up to this point is the bare minimum AutoCAD needs to run. Next, you will begin to tune AutoCAD's performance and functionality specifically for a network. Begin by selecting main menu Option 8 to set the operating parameters necessary for networking. Step 6: Enter the plot file named Autospool in Option 3 of the operating parameters to enable automatic network queuing. In Option 4, enter the path to your spool file directory, Spfiles, from Step 1. Select Option 5 and enter the local Acadnet directory to locate temporary files. These temporary files are different from the swap files created by VMM and managed by the settings in Step 3. Instead, this setting determines where AutoCAD's drawing data manager places files. Use Option 6 to specify a network node name. Use the person's initials who will normally operate the workstation or a unique network node number up to three digits long. Set the Acadnet directory path in Option 7 to locate the automatic save file with the other temporary files. Reuse the default file name, AUTO.SV$. Option 11 is for the login name you entered in Step 5. You must enter a unique name each time you configure a new workstation. Step 7: Once fully configured, the AutoCAD drawing editory should appear. Shell to DOS to make sure that the VMM files are actually being created in the local Acadnet directory. These are the files with a random alphanumeric name, one without an extension and one with the extension SWR. As an editing session progresses, drawing page files and scratch files with the extensions AC$, $AC, and PG* may also appear in this directory periodically. When AutoCAD is not running, none of these files should exist in the Acadnet directory and may be safely deleted if found. Test for proper operation of all configured hardware peripherals. Step 8: Set up network-shared plotters and printers with Autospool, port redirection, or a third-party spooler. Step 9: Repeat Steps 5 through 7 for each additional workstation. These steps are the minimum to complete an AutoCAD network installation properly. Additional steps should be performed, depending on your network operating system, to improve security, flexibility, and convenience. The guidelines presented here should help you get the best performance out of AutoCAD. To do any better requires additional analysis, hardware, and network tuning. Ken W. Billing is systems-application engineer and district manager for PacifiCAD in Portland, Ore., and the author of Managing and Networking AutoCAD.

A Look at AutoCAD Release 13 Changing the Way You For the Better BY PETER SHEERIN The first new release of AutoCAD in two years is on the way to a dealer near you, but how will it affect the work you do? What features could possibly be worth the hassle of upgrading? New Entities and Features One of the biggest limitations on new functionality in previous releases has been the DWG format, a convoluted structure onto which bits and pieces had been tacked at each new release. By discarding the old structure (in its internal and file representations), Autodesk has been able to add more than 20 new entities to AutoCAD and has the ability to add new entities for specific applications (such as AutoSurf). If you are not using a drawing management program, you probably have had a hard time finding the right drawing because drawing names are never descriptive enough. The inclusion of a bit mapped preview image of each drawing within the drawing file displayed in the File Open dialog box eases this problem. It may not help you find the specific drawing revision you are looking for, but it provides all AutoCAD users with some sorely needed information regardless if you are using a drawing management program, drawing viewer, or nothing at all. If you create drawings that have a great deal of text in them (such as drawings that also serve as specifications), you have probably made rude remarks about AutoCAD's anemic text-editing abilities. Release 13 finally supports multiline text, complete with word wrapping and character formatting, such as color, stacked-fractions, bold, and italics, which will make it easier to edit text within a drawing and import text from other sources. The Windows version of Release 13 will also include a built-in text editor designed specifically for dealing with the new multiline text entity, and the DOS and Windows versions will include a spell checker (contrary to our initial report). One technology that has gotten much press lately is Object Linking and Embedding (OLE), a standard developed by Microsoft that allows for the creation and editing of compound documents. For an example of the benefits of OLE for AutoCAD, consider this situation: creating a table in a drawing that was a duplicate of one that existed as a Lotus or Excel spreadsheet. In the past, it was not only difficult to create a table with some semblance to the original, but it was tedious to modify. Now, assuming you are running the Windows version of AutoCAD and have an OLE server application, you can simply copy that Excel spreadsheet to the clipboard and paste it into your drawing. This process allows you to have the chart appear as a normal part of the drawing that displays and plots just as you would expect, but you edit the table with Excel, not AutoCAD. Dimensioning has also received a facelift. The old limitations of dimension styles have been fixed, so you can now define a dimension style that doesn't change its appearance based on the current setting of a normal AutoCAD system variable. To solve this problem, dimension variables help store the number of decimal places displayed, zero suppression, unit format, and text style. You can also create dimension style families so settings can be specific to the type of dimension being created, whether it is linear or angular. For the first time since their introduction in Release 11, it appears that associative dimension styles will finally be easier to use, which will help increase the accuracy of your drawings. If you are in one of the disciplines that typically uses fancy linetypes to delineate specific features (such as different types of fences or utility lines), you will welcome the ability to create complex linetypes that include text strings or symbols. While the symbols must be defined in shape files, making their definition a bit on the complex side, this feature will be a godsend to users who have struggled to manually create such linetypes before. It will also lay the Framework for better translations among other CAD packages, such as MicroStation, which have had complex linetypes for years. Several third-party utilities have provided this feature for quite some time; but by the nature of AutoCAD's database, they could not be well integrated into the drawing process. One entity type that is sure to get a round of applause is the new, mathematically correct splines and ellipses. No longer will these entities have to be approximated by polylines consisting of short lines that approximate the intended shape. This new feature will let you edit splines and ellipses properly, including operations that trim them. For instance, a trimmed ellipse now becomes an elliptical arc, instead of just a bunch of connected straight line segments. For those drawings that previously would have used a lot of splined polylines, an additional benefit will be a reduced file size because the spline entity can represent the same shape with much less information. New Editing Features Interestingly, the addition of true ellipse and elliptical arc entities was one of the missing puzzle pieces that prevented you from exploding unequally scaled blocks. With those in place, you can now explode any unequally scaled block, and be able to edit the resulting entities. Another benefit of the redesigned database is that it is now much easier for programmers to add functionality. Without going into the technical reasons, adding new behavior to existing entities was a very complex and error-prone process, severely limiting the capacity for enhancements. One of the resulting editing commands is lengthen, which lets you change the length of any entity just by selecting it and entering the new length at the keyboard or with the cursor. If you happened to read Programmer's Toolbox by Bill Kramer in September ("Entity Handles and Extended Data," p.121), he presented a sample AutoLISP program that could group multiple entities together for certain editing operations, without having to define them as a block. AutoCAD now has this capability built-in, with a much more robust interface and feature set. The group command lets you save named groups of entities that then behave as one larger, complex entity, while still allowing you to toggle back to the normal editing method when necessary. If you are constantly using construction lines, AutoCAD now provides bona-fide construction-line entities, which extend infinitely in either direction (for xlines) or in one direction only (for the ray entity), without changing the drawings' extents. This addition seems simple, but in previous versions of AutoCAD, it was not possible without performing lots of trickery. Alas, there is nothing else magical about construction lines; they will always plot unless you place them on a separate layer and freeze it (or turn it off) before plotting-only to turn it back on when you need them for editing. Remember the flatland variable? It was used way back in Release 10 as a transition between the versions of AutoCAD that straddled the change to a full 3D database. But when it was removed in the next release, one important capability went with it: apparent intersections. Even though it appeared that two lines intersected on the screen, if they didn't truly touch each other in 3D space, you could not snap to the projected intersection. For cases where a drawing contained a mixture of true 3D entities and normal 2D entities, this made many editing operations, such as trim and extend, next-to-impossible. Release 13 restores that functionality, without complicating things by bringing the flatland variable back. Similar complexities have been removed from the trim, fillet, and extend commands. It used to be that only entities that were all in the current UCS could be trimmed, filleted, and so on. Now, the only requirement is that the operation is physically possible-it doesn't matter what UCS or view you are in. And just as you can now snap to an apparent intersection, you can extend and trim entities to the point where they would meet another entity, if only that entity extended far enough. Perhaps the one new editing feature that will save you the most time is the new hatching ability. The biggest difference is that hatches are finally associative. If you move (or remove) one of the existing hatch boundaries, it no longer means you have to re-hatch an area or save the original hatch boundary for future modifications. If you move any entity that was already selected as a boundary for a given hatch, the hatch will automatically regenerate itself, without forcing you to intervene at all. Other time-savers While I still haven't described all the new features (I haven't mentioned the integrated support for solid-modeling entities or the changes to the SQL interface, for instance), the ones I have described should make life easier for almost all users. Upgrading from one release to the next, from the DOS to the Windows version, or from one bug-fix release to another can be extremely time-consuming because it has traditionally required a complete reconfiguration of AutoCAD, and manual updating of the menus, if any had been modified. With the clear focus on Windows as the preferred operating platform of the future, it made sense to restructure the way AutoCAD stores its configuration settings. They are now maintained in a pure ASCII file, ACAD.INI, to comply with Windows guidelines, even in the DOS version. What possible benefit could this have to DOS users? It makes it easy to switch to the Windows version, and it means that AutoCAD can now save many or all the configuration settings from one update to the next because of the extensible, stable nature of ASCII INI files. Do you need to have both the DOS and Windows versions loaded on your machine at the same time (the recent addition of a dual-use license now allows this), but cringe at the thought of two large, complete installations eating your disk space up in a flash? The AutoCAD installation process now structures the directories in such a way that shared support files can be shared and those that can't be shared are kept separate. This setup also simplifies the addition of either version if you initially only installed one of the two. With the new ability of partial menu loading, end-users and thirdparty applications can tack-on their own menus to the standard AutoCAD menu without having to duplicate and modify it. With far fewer revisions to the standard AutoCAD menu needed, upgrading and installing add-on products will become much simpler in the future. Unfortunately, this new feature will only be available in the Windows version. There will be some downsides to the new release, however. The one fundamental change that will ripple through the market will be the new drawing format. Any product that reads or writes DWG files on its own, without the use of AutoCAD, will have to be updated before it will work with Release 13 files. This stipulation will affect everything from simple file viewers to competing CAD products, such as MicroStation, that boast of AutoCAD file compatibility as one of their strengths. It may seem as if Autodesk's plan was to cleverly modify the drawing format just to make life difficult for these competitors, but the real truth is that the old DWG format simply couldn't handle the new Features that you will see in Release 13 and beyond. Holding on to the old format would have limited the capability of AutoCAD to a very significant degree. Taken as a whole, the changes to Release 13 may not appear truly radical to the naked eye. They will, however, provide significant advantages to end users, system managers, and developers, while helping to provide a solid base that will make it easier for Autodesk to enhance the product in the future. Restructuring a significant portion of the code has removed much of the quirkiness of AutoCAD's behavior that has crept in over the years. All of these changes in the evolution of AutoCAD may cause a few problems during the transition period, but you will be better off having left the old, tattered baggage behind. Peter Sheerin is the Technical Editor for CADENCE. Evo dodataka uz prethodni tekst Wishing On a List In developing Release 13, Autodesk took the unusual step of going to the users to find out what they really wanted in this product that most of them use every day of their working lives. In addition to focus groups, on-line exchanges, and road trips, Autodesk relied on the Wish List maintained by the NAAUG (National Association of Autodesk User Groups). As you can see from the following lists, Autodesk hit a majority of the items, though there will be users mightily disappointed at some of the omissions. On the positive side, it's realistic to hope they will be covered in the next release. It would behoove those readers with pet peeves and nurtured wishes to put them in writing and send them to Autodesk via CompuServe in the ACAD forum or through your local user group. NAAUG 1993 AutoCAD Wish List -A full-featured text editor yes -PURGE at any time yes -Associative hatching that stretches and moves yes -Allow Fillet command operation on a combination of Lines and Plines yes -Explode mirrored, unequally scaled blocks yes -Spell checker with custom dictionaries yes -Dialog boxes can be accepted with an <Enter > as well as picking OK no -Allow multiple window selections when using the stretch command no -Plot buffer inside AutoCAD so that PC is freed up immediately no -Put name of current open drawing somewhere on screen yes Top Write-Ins for 1993 -Ability to change Hatch attributes in a drawing, include Hatch type, scale, and angle yes -Trim or Extend lines that do not touch yes -Hide plot-hidden line removal could turn hidden, lines into another LTSTYLE (dashed) no -Preview drawing file before loading into AutoCAD yes -Ability to create Hatch patterns from a drawing yes NAAUG 1992 Wish List -Associative hatching yes -PURGE at any time yes -Hatch properties editing yes -Multiple line text object yes -More fronts including bold and filled yes -Simultaneous editing and multiple PLINES no -Save plot specification with drawing no -Text screen scrolling yes -Multiple line text for leaders yes -Spell checker yes NEW RELEASE STRATEGY Along with its new products, Autodesk has developed new strategies for getting those products into the hands of users. Autodesk's goals include converting more users to Windows so they will be potential customers for the raft of new Windows products being planned (first among them is WorkCenter described by Craig Sharp in "Autodesk WorkCenter,"October CADENCE, p.58), encouraging the adoption of CD-Rom drives so that more information can be delivered, more economically and, perhaps most important of all compressing the upgrade cycle so that users move to Release 13 within six to nine months rather than the more usual nine to 12 months. Autodesk has seriously jumped on the Windows bandwagon, but the AutoCAD community has not greeted this news with universal delight. The AutoCAD power user will always be suspicious about the speed of AutoCAD on Windows. Autodesk believes that once it gets users actually working with the product, the speed issue will be less of o problem. Certainly, the Windows version of Release 13 is glitter than the DOS version. Also, Autodesk has leveraged Windows features such as the Clipboard to let users cut and paste between the command line and the text editor, as well as DDE and OLE. When it comes to convincing users AutoCAD product manager Maureen Bragg is targeting the solid core she believes exists of people who use AutoCAD in DOS but who use Windows for everything else. These users are already committed to Windows, in theory and they are just holding out for the performance they need to do their job. To encourage users to make the change, Autodesk is allowing multiple licenses for DOS Windows and Windows NT versions even though, as of this writing, it doesn't look as if they will all be released at the same time. Nevertheless AutoCAD Release 13 purchasers will get the Windows and DOS products whether they ask for both or not. Because the DOS version is shipping first, users who call and get an authorization code will get AutoCAD for Windows when it's released. In the case of NT, Autodesk will make it available to people who need it with a certificate. Remember the Release 12 rollout? It was quite a different story when users were forced to make a choice between Windows and DOS. Most of them chose DOS. Another technology Autodesk intends to take full advantage of is CD-ROM. For software developers, CD-ROM represents a very economical delivery-system option. There's a lot of product packed into an AutoCAD box, and Autodesk is now packing a lot of products. In addition it's including much more documentation on-line and product demos. Autodesk's commitment to CD ROM technology is also evident in its new strategy towards support. The Support Desk, from Autodesk can be purchased by dealers as an aid in fielding user calls for support. Using a search mechanism that lets users query according to a broad problem and then narrow it down to specifics should ease the online life of many dealers struggling to offer support to AutoCAD users on a small-business budget. However, some attendees at CAD Camp, a dealer and developer sales conference sponsored by Autodesk in the late summer, found the interface a little cumbersome. One of Autodesk,s primary concerns is the typically longer upgrade cycle for AutoCAD compared to most software products. Although most people upgrade their software within six to nine months, AutoCAD users take from nine to 12 months to make the change. Autodesk product rnanager Maureen Bragg acknowledges that AutoCAD users are slower to upgrade because they have so much riding on their software, but she'd like to accelerate the process. To that end, Autodesk announced the upgrade pricing ($495 for Release 12 users and $695 for earlier versions). As an incentive to buying a CD player, there will also be an additional $100 discount for users who opt for the CD version before January 1995. (More inducement comes in the CD list price for Release 13, which is the same as Release 12 at $3750, but $3995 for a floppy-disk only package). The faster users get on Release 13 and acquire CDs, the sooner they may adopt Windows and start buying all the other products Autodesk developers are busily working on. Perhaps, though, the strongest argument in favor of Windows and AutoCAD is that of compatibility and integration. If everyone is working on Windows and even Windows NT, then it will be much easier to develop products that work together. It should be noted that UNIX vendors are no more thrilled with this strategy than are die hard DOS users. As for the other platforms Autodesk has pledged to support, so far the company has only committed to HP-UX, SunSolaris, IBM AIX, SGI Irix, and an NT version for the DEC Alpha. Macintosh? Don't hold your breath. There simply have not been enough Macintosh versions of AutoCAD sold to spark Autodesk's-and Apple's-interest. Roadshow calendar Autodesk is faking Release 13 on the road this month to give users a first look at the product. Not only is Release 13 on the agenda, but vertical presentations will reflect Autodesk's new strategy of targeting individual markets. Add-on products from Autodesk and third-party developers in the AEC, Process and Power, GIS, and MCAD markets will be highlighted. However, not al road shows will feature presentations from all the vertical markets. As we go to press, the schedule looks something like this: Nov. 7 Nov. 8 g Nov. 9 Nov. 10 Nov. 11 Long Beach Phoenix Denver Seattle Sunnyvale Dallas Houston Kansas City St.Louis New Orleans Milwaukee Minneapolis Detroit Cincinnati Cleveland Boston West Hartford Parsipanny Bethesda Pittsburgh Charlotte Raleigh Orlando Birmingham Miami For details on the Release 13 Roadshow, call (800) 225-1191 or fax name, address, and phone number to (206) 325-1893. cadua.32 cpera,
-------------------------------------------------------------------- POSTUPAK PRIJEMA CLANOVA U CADUA ───────────────────────────────── Prilikom prijema clanstva prijemna komisija CADUA ce u narednom periodu sprovoditi sledeci postupak. 1. 3. Prilikom prijema predstavnik komisije izdaje kandidatu kopiju potvrde o primljenoj dokumentaciji. 6) Komisija o svom radu vodi dokumentaciju sledeceg sadrzaja: - baza podataka u kojoj je navedeno ime i prezime kandidata, struka, datum predaje rada, donosenja pozitivnog misljenja i uclanjenja. - Hardcopy varijantu izvestaja uz prijavni list i pristupnicu svakog kandidata. Posle prvog prikaza programa ACAD R13, poruka 13.15, evo detaljnijeg izvestaja, prenesenog iz casopisa CADENCE (decembar 94.) F E A T U R E Taking Apart Release 13 Zeroing In on Autodesk's Latest Release B Y P E T E R S H E E R I N Finally, Release 13 is making it out Autodesk's front door. For this review, we've taken some of the major features and put a magnifying glass on them. We have not gone into great detail on the Windows version because, at press time, it was not ready for review. The Windows version will have all of the features of Release 13 for DOS, plus a few others, including OLE support, enhanced menus, and a brand-new interface. Plenty of other new enhancements may not require a whole section to describe but are certainly worthy of mention. One of the biggest changes in the DOS release is the inclusion of a display-list driver in the box, just as has been the case with Release 12 for Windows all along. The driver, licensed from Vibrant Graphics, is basically the same as its low-end driver, with the inclusion of an aerial-view (or bird's eye). Aside from the enhanced speed and interface this setup provides, the driver adds a feature certain to be cherished by all the single-screen AutoCAD users: a graphics-based text window. No longer does doing a flip screen (either manually or as a result of the LIST command, for example) switch to the standard black text screen, forcing the monitor to delay switch modes. Instead, the text output is mapped to the graphics screen, eliminating yet one more annoyance left over from the old AutoCAD. The dialog-based help system that was introduced in Release 12 has been revamped and now functions very much like the Windows help system. Hypertext links and pop-up definition boxes are supported, along with a searchable index and navigation keys. Of particular interest, the new help system has two features that will be of use to all AutoCAD users. A comprehensive list and description of what commands have been added, changed, or removed between Release 12 and Release 13 will help make the transition easier for users. The reference manual is split into two parts, the User's Guide and the Command Reference. Autodesk has included the full text of the Command Reference in the help system, complete with hypertext links where appropriate. There are no graphics, but this setup will reduce the need to refer back to the paper manuals to learn about the less often used commands. Another new item on the driver front is an enhanced HP-GL/2 plotter driver from Hewlett Packard that provides many more configuration options. This driver is basically the same one that HP includes with its plotters, and it provides more control over HP-GL/2 features, such as line cap ping and line joining (beveled ends versus rounded, and so on), screened lines, raster pattern fills, and an option to combine one rendering onto an otherwise normal vector plot. Also, due to popular demand, the included drivers finally support the HP DeskJet printers! Support is specifically included for the 500, 500C, and 550C in monochrome and color modes. The PostScript driver now supports 600dpi and adds the option to have either a <Ctrl-Z>, <Ctrl-D> character, or both to the end of the output. Among many of the small changes to AutoCAD that begin the elimination of confusing behavior is a new method of entity picking. If you have selected one entity that is coincident with one or more other entities, it has not always been possible to select the one you were actually after or even see that there was more than one entity there in the first place. Now at the time you select an entity, you can hold down the control key while pressing the pick button to cycle through all the entities within the aperture that you selected. Another fix along these lines is the ability to purge the drawing of unused blocks, text styles, and line types at any time-not just when the drawing is first opened. While Release 13 has many new features and enhancements, some capabilities have disappeared. Freeplotting (the ability to launch AutoCAD and plot without using up a network license), which first appeared in Release 12, has now, disappeared, without the functionality appearing elsewhere. The one solution to this problem in the past was a "show demo" version of AutoCAD, which could plot and edit but not save drawings. It was an inexpensive product, but there is no guarantee that it will reappear. The built-in IGES translator has also disappeared. Even though it supported a very old version of the standard, but to get that functionality, you have to purchase Autodesk's separate, $1200 IGES translator. Despite all the information we've given you, there is a lot more detail to go into later. Keep your eye on our regular columns for more information about the inner workings of Release 13. Text Enhancements by Peter Sheerin A big shortcoming of AutoCAD has been its lackluster support for text-even though text is a an important part, and sometimes large percentage, of your drawings. Previously, each line of text had to be a separate entity. No word wrapping was performed, and although paragraphs could be formed, they were not a picnic to edit if the length of a line within a note changed. Release 13 adds of number of important enhancements that improve text handling, but it is still lacking a few features that would make it even easier. A new entity, MTEXT, provides paragraph text. Now, on text entity can span multiple lines and can be automatically word-wrapped at a given location. In addition to standing on its own, an MTEXT entity is used with the new associative dimension leader, so leaders can now have multiline text. The addition of a multiline text entity requires a new method of input, beyond the simple command line. Here lies one of the limitations. While the Windows version of Release 13 will include a text editor specifically designed for the MTEXT entity, the DOS version doesn't include such an editor and instead, relies on the user to have a DOS text editor, shelling out from AutoCAD each time an MTEXT entity is created or modified. This process is cumbersome because that text editor may or may not have a word-wrap function and certainly won't know what the specified margins for a specific MTEXT entity were, even if it did. While the Windows MTEXT editor provides buttons and check-boxes to modify properties of individual words and characters (just like a word processor), in the DOS version of AutoCAD, these settings must be manually specified by embedding special formatting codes in the text. Not providing an MTEXT editor in the DOS version was a mistake and is one Autodesk should fix quickly. Also, while AutoCAD now supports TrueType and Type 1 scaleable fonts, its primary font architecture is still the old vector- based SHX font. This setup means that while True Type and Type 1 fonts can theoretically have attributes, such as bolding and italics applied to them, SHX fonts have no such capability and Autodesk decided to make MTEXT editing less confusing by not implementing those font attributes. You can, however, specify one or more different fonts within each MTEXT entity. Because Type 1 fonts treat different styles as individual font files, you can achieve the desired appearance with italic, bold, and bold-italic versions of a given Type 1 font. The allowed formatting includes stacked-fractions, overline, underline, nonbreaking spaces, color, tracking, width, and obliquing (an imitation of italics, but an incorrect one). Bold and italics are available in a font change. It is also possible to define a font-mapping file that provides two benefits. If you are sending a drawing to another AutoCAD user who doesn't have the same fonts as you, you can remap the fonts to different, standard AutoCAD fonts. You may want to use this feature for editing with standard AutoCAD SHX Fonts (fast!) but switch fonts to filled Type 1 or TrueType (slow, but pretty) fonts easily and painlessly when it's time to plot. While this may not be of interest to most of our readers, international AutoCAD users will appreciate the ability to redefine which direction the text flows. For those languages of the world that read from right to left, AutoCAD can now create text in that direction. It also can handle all the complex and numerous characters in foreign languages with its added support for Unicode fonts. And last, but certainly not least (it has consistently been at the top of AutoCAD wish lists), DOS and Windows versions of Release 13 include a spell-checker. This spell checker is full-featured-similar to the one found in word processors, such as Microsoft Word-and even includes user-defined dictionaries (but no, not quite compatible with Word's dictionaries). Peter Sheerin is the technical editor of CADENCE Dimensions: Good News and... by John Gibb It was with much anticipation that I dived into the new dimension features in Release 13. I had heard that Autodesk took the wish list seriously, and it had reworked dimensioning extensively. I was not disappointed. Well, not much. As you can see from my What's Hot? list, I do have one wish that was unfulfilled by this new version. No Associative to the Geometry AutoCAD has had associative dimensions since early on in the development of the software. Unfortunately, the dimensions are associative only in the sense that they are aware of their own definition entities and definition points (control points). They have never been truly associative to the geometry that the annotate. That is still the case, and it is unfortunate that true associative dimensions have not been added. This complaint is small compared to the many new features and new user interface. New Dialog Boxes The DDIM dialog box and its child dialog boxes have been totally reworked. They are more intuitive for the various dimension styles you create and for the new process of creating dimension families. The same dialog boxes you use to create a dimension style are used for creating the family members of a dimension style. You can simply pick the family type from the list of radio buttons and then select the Geometry. . . , Format..., or Annotation. . button to set up the dimension variables for that family member. While the child dialog boxes have been rearranged, their function has not been changed. The new feature in the boxes is the inclusion of image tiles that reflect the changes you make. You can pick on the image tile and you will toggle through the possibilities. Or, you might choose to use the radio but- tons or pop-up list to make your choice. Dimension families This new concept makes it easier to create one dimension style that can look like multiple dimension styles. Now each dimstyle can have a separate setup for dimension types like linear, radial, angular, diameter, ordinate, or leaders. If you have a separate setup for linear dimensions in your style, AutoCAD will automatically use the changes when you place a linear dimension with that style. Dimension Variable Overrides Overrides are applied to individual dimensions in a dimstyle, and the dimension will still reference the dimstyle it was created with. No more UNNAMED dimstyle when you override a dimension. Independent Dimension Units Each dimstyle can now have its own units attached to it, independent of the drawing units. You can also use the override feature to assign different units to individual dimensions while the dimension keeps its dimstyle. Extensive Arrowhead Support You can now have no arrowheads, open or closed, arrowheads, rightangle, closed-filled, oblique, dot, origin indication, and user-defined arrow heads. More basic choices means less hassle. Nonlinear Leader Lines You can now have curved leader lines using the format option for leaders. Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing Mechanical Engineers and Drafters will be happy with the new tolerance command. AutoCAD now has Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) built into it. GD&T is an international standard used by the mechanical disciplines to define geometric constraints on any given design. John Gibb is an AutoCAD instructor and CAD consultant based in Chicago, Ill. AVE Render Updates by Craig Sharp While the 3D modeling capabilities of Release 13 DOS will be a welcome addition for people who find themselves building models of their ideas, the ability to visualize those results in impressive fashion is still left up to products such as AutoVision, 3D Studio, and other third-party renderers. The improvements made to AVE Render, important as they are, cannot be termed exciting. The speed of rendering in Release 13 is most definitely improved and is likely attributable to Rx ADS. Phong shading has been added as well as spot lights and the interface via dialog boxes is better thought out and more accessible. Most improved is AutoCAD's ability to exchange files with other Autodesk rendering products, which at least improves your ability to create impressive renderings from external applications. The relationship between AutoCAD and 3D Studio, AutoVision, and Visual Link has been unified, and true material libraries in MLI format are now supported in import and export fashion. Even though not all of the effects of materials applications can be viewed in AutoCAD, they will, at least, transport back and forth between AutoCAD and 3D Studio or AutoVision using two new commands, 3DSin and 3DSout. Materials created in 3D Studio that have maps applied are imported by converting the map to a Targa file, except for materials created using animation files that use only the first frame of the animation or IPAS routines. Furthermore, lights, meshes, materials, and cameras can be retained, and a variety of color, material, and object creation options are available. You can also select which objects will be imported into AutoCAD. AutoCAD will import a 3D Studio file and create layers based on how the model was created in 3D Studio, naming the layers by the object's color, material, or object name. You can also import everything to one AutoCAD layer if you so desire. 3D Studio cameras are retained as views in AutoCAD, and objects are assigned a color approximating their 3D Studio color from AutoCAD's color palette. Ambient light loses any color assigned in 3D Studio, omni lights become point lights, and spotlights become spotlights. Finally, AutoCAD provides you with the option of splitting 3DS objects that have more than one material assigned to them. Exporting AutoCAD geometry to a 3DS file provides many of the same features as importing the 3DS file: adding the ability to split blocks or retain them as a 3DS object, creation of 3DS smoothing groups, and automatic welding of vertices. The addition of Phong shading provides a more pleasing look to the treatment of materials and color in AVE Render and is necessary when using spotlights. Figure 1 shows a rendering that includes standard point lights, materials with a variety of ambient, specular, and roughness settings, and the addition of the new spotlights. Unfortunately, setting the hot spot and Falloff of the spotlight cone is not a dynamic process (you can't visually adjust the size of the cone) and requires some rather arcane guesswork to obtain the proper settings. Even more disappointing is the fact that no form of shadow casting is included with the spotlights. Therefore, the final effect of the placement of the spotlights for use in a more sophisticated rendering environment cannot be visualized. The Render menu is now placed under a Tools pull-down menu, which is more appropriate for the frequency of use of AVE Render. Once you trickle down to the desired render command, dialog boxes are presented that place the rendering options more readily at hand and in a less obscure fashion than those of Release 12. The naming, selection, and application of materials from two dialog boxes using a materials library is certainly a welcome improvement and you can now assign materials by layer in addition to Release 12's way o doing it by color and entity. Finally, you can render directly to a file instead of first rendering to the display and then saving the image to a file. If you own a thirdparty rendering program, you will appreciate the additions to AVE Render for Release 13. If you want AutoCAD to do your renderings for you, you will be pleased with the increased speed, improved interface, and improved display of color via Phong shading but you will find yourself still waiting for a real rendering environment. Craig Sharp is an architect with Motley and Associates in Roanoke, Va. He is the author or co-author of five books on Autodesk products and has been using AutoCAD for eight years. Compatibility Concerns by Ralph Grabowski With ten programming interfaces, it would seem that AutoCAD is a rich enough environment for developers. In Release 13, Autodesk has created yet another applications programming interface (API) it calls Rx. This API promises an even tighter integration of third-party programs with AutoCAD. Rx applications are like dynamic link libraries (DLL) under Windows. A DLL is only loaded when the application requires it. Then, the DLL loads automatically. Rx applications retain their DLL status even when running under DOS. Smaller AutoCAD developers are not happy that employing Rx required a 32MB computer running Windows NT-even for DOS-based Rx applications. At the time of this writing, Autodesk was still creating the new API and did not expect to finalize it or the documentation until after Release 13 ships. The other significant change to programming Release 13 is the ability to load menu fragments. Currently, to change a menu, an entire MNU file must be loaded. Release 13 is able to load portions of an MNU file, as required. Command Compatibility As you would expect, Release 13 has many new commands. What developers might not expect is that a number of existing commands have different names. This news is bad and good-bad because AutoCAD veterans have to retrain their fingers, in some cases, and good because Autodesk has integrated the appendix commands, such as Dim:Hor and (xload "ASE") AseEraseTable, to make them more like core-code commands. If you customize AutoCAD in any way, you need to be aware of the blatant and subtle changes to the command set. At the time of this writing, the beta version of Release 13 contains more than 70 new and changed commands. The 33 new commands in Release 13 are: 3DSin, 3DSout, AcisIn, AcisOut, AmeConvert, BmpOut, CloseDwg, CopyHist, DdColor, DdGroup, DdLtype, DdStyle, DdToolbars, Group, HatchEdit, InsertObj, Lengthen, MenuLoad, MenuUnload, MlEdit, MLine, MlStyle, MText, OleLinka, PasteSpec, Ray, Rx, SaveAsRl2, Spell, SplinEdit, SysWindows, VIConv, XLine, and Xplode. As is common in AutoCAD, many commands have additional options. Some commands, such as InsertObj and OleLinks, are specific to the Windows version of Release 13. Many of the commands with changed names are external routines that Autodesk rewrote as Rx programs. In some cases, Autodesk reduced the number of commands required to use a feature. The most dramatic example is in ASE, where just six commands replace 31. The dimension, AVE, ASE, and AME commands have been renamed, as follows : Renamed dimension commands: DimAligned, DimAngular, DimBaseline, DimCenter, DimContinue, DimDiamter, DimEdit, DimLinear, DimOrdinate, DimOverride, DimRadius, DimTEdit, Leader, and Tolerance. Renamed AVE commands: DLight, MakePreview, PLight, and SLight. Renamed ASE commands: AseAdmin, AseExport, AseLinks, AseRows, AseRunRep, AseSqlEd. AME commands have reappeared in AutoCAD as new entities: Box, Cone, Cylinder, Extrude, Interfere, Intersect, MassProp, Revolve, Section, Slice, Sphere, Subtract, Torus, Union, and Wedge. Other renamed commands: One other existing command has been renamed: bpoly is now boundary. Two existing commands have a pair of added options. The chamfer command has the Trim and Method options added; the osnap command has the new Insert and AppInt options. File Compatibility For the first 10 releases of AutoCAD, Autodesk made the DWG file format incompatible with previous versions. In Release 11, John Walker wrote DxfIx to convert R11 drawings to R10 via DXF. In Release 12, the DWG format was not changed, allowing Release 11 to read R12 drawings. With Release 13, the DWG file format has dramatically changed again. However, for the first time, Autodesk includes a native backward translator, the SaveAsRl2 command. The command saves the current drawing in Release 12 format, converting or stripping out incompatible Release 13 entities. The internal IGES translator has been dropped from Release 13. Because Autodesk had never bothered to upgrade the translator from its rather ancient version 3.4 standard, this change isn't a big deal; however, Autodesk's up-to-date version 5.2 IGES translator is an additional $1,200. The AME in Release 13 uses ACIS-based modeling, unlike the PADL-based modeling used in the AME of Release 11 and 12. The new AMEconvert command brings solid models created in earlier versions of AME into Release 13. To read solid models created by other ACIS-based modelers, Release 13 includes the new ACISin and ACISout commands. To tie AutoCAD more closely to 3D Studio, Autodesk had released Visual Link. In Release 13, the optional software package is no longer needed. The new 3DSin and 3DSout commands read and write 3D Studio files; the new VlConv command converts files created by Visual Link. Ralph Grabowski is the author of books about CAD. His newest books include The Illustrated AutoCAD Release 13 Quick Reference for DOS and Windows from Delmar Publishers. He is based in Abbotsford, B. C. Rx ADS: Improving the speed! by Bill Kramer AutoCAD R13 introduces a new twist to the most powerful customization tool available for this CAD engine, ADS. In brief, Rx ADS changes the way AutoCAD and ADS-based applications communicate with each other. The net result of the change is greatly improved performance for ADS applications that communicate with AutoCAD frequently. One way of viewing the improvement is that Rx ADS streamlines the communications between ADS and AutoCAD by eliminating the go between, which is AutoLISP in this case. Traditional ADS programs communicate with AutoCAD trough AutoLISP, which, although fast, had room improvement- especially in the arena of entity and table manipulations within the AutoCAD drawing database, and that is what Rx ADS addresses. Rx ADS does not represent the quantum leap execution speed we experienced when ADS first showed up as a tool for improving AutoLISP, however it does point towards the direction Autodesk is taking us. Although we have not compiled any exact bench marks yet, programs running under Rx ADS show an improvement in throughput. The amount of improvement you would experience depends on the number of times a program makes calls to the AutoCAD system. One good incentive For porting to Rx ADS is that future releases of the AutoCAD APIs for other products will exist in Rx ADS before they exist in ADS. It is rumored that some libraries in the future will only be available to Rx ADS applications. It was not easy to convert AutoLISP to ADS, and it won't be any easier to convert AutoLISP to Rx ADS. (Although in both cases, the gains in terms of speed may make the effort worthwhile.) However, updating existing ADS routines to work under Rx ADS is a very straightforward process. To give you an idea of the complexity, the only problem we had was in figuring out how to run the Windows Visual C++ programming environment properly. Which, by the way, is the programming tool you use to create Rx ADS programs. Our experience with programming environments has been plentiful, and the Visual C++ package from Microsoft is very nice. But it is also quite different from what we had worked with in the past, so it took some getting used to. The biggest advantage for serious ADS programmers is that the Windows NT Visual C++ program creates executable programs for NT, Windows, and DOS. That's because Rx ADS programs are DLL that are bound to the AutoCAD program. So far, our experiments have been strictly under Windows NT, but by the time of this printing, that situation will have changed. Because Rx ADS programs are DLLs, they do not have the familiar MAIN entry point in a C pro- gram. Instead the function acrxEntryPoint() serves as the main program name. This entry point is used by AutoCAD when the load request is first issued, when a drawing is saved or loaded, and for other reasons much like the return values of the ads_link() function. Rx ADS programs don't go away or just wander off between drawings either. Once an Rx ADS program is loaded, it continues to live between drawings. Event messages are passed to the Rx ADS application when the drawing changes; however, the complete program remains intact, and the only requirement is that function names defined using the ads_defun subroutine must be defined again when a drawing is loaded. Another nice feature of Rx ADS programs is that they can be loaded as AutoCAD is loading and actually begin to execute before AutoCAD is completely up and running. All in all, Rx ADS is the right direction for Autodesk to be going. Using tighter communications between programs means that eventually more interactive gates will be opening up between AutoCAD and our programs. Of course, there is still a lot of room for improvement, however, Autodesk has done a very good job in not only communicating its intent with the developers but also in providing good tools to get the job done right. Bill Kramer has more than 10 years experience customizing CAD/CAM/CAE systems. He can be reached at 7317,2635 on Compu- Serve's CADENCE forum or on Internet as (bill)čmetrodata.com. Solid Modeling and 3D by John Wilson One big, and certainly pleasant, surprise is that AutoCAD Release 13 replaces the Advanced Modeling Extension (AME). This change does not mean that AME has disappeared altogether, there is a provision in Release 13 to convert AME solid models into the new format. How do Release 13 s solid modeling capabilities compare with those of AME? They are about equal in their ability to create solids with primitives, extrusion, and revolution. All of the Boolean operations are in Release 13, but you cannot take composite solids apart as you can in AME. Release 13 can slice a solid into two pieces and is more flexible than AME in defining the cutting plane-but it isn't the same as separating a composite solid. No special commands make fillets and chamfers on solids because AutoCAD uses the standard fillet and chamfer commands. Both of these operations work better than their counterparts in AME. They are intuitive and convenient to use, much faster, and can handle shapes that AME will not accept. Also missing, because they are no longer needed, are commands to transform a solid into a polyface form and back to a wireframe form. Now, when you invoke the hide or shade command, AutoCAD automatically converts solids to a polyface form. Release 13 has a command for making a cross section through a solid, just as AME has. The resulting entity is a region, so data on area properties is readily available. Some of you, however, are likely to be disappointed to find there are no other commands for making 2D images from a 3D solid. 3D Wireframe Construction and Editing Some new features for 3D wireframe construction and editing in Release 13 are unspectacular but important. Most of these new features have been borrowed from AutoSurf, Autodesk's sophisticated 3D surface modeling program released about one year ago. In previous versions of AutoCAD, entities had to be in a plane parallel to the User Coordinate System (UCS) before you could fillet, chamfer, trim, or extend them. Now you can perform these operations no matter how the entities are oriented within the UCS. Trim and extend can even be view-dependent entities to be trimmed or extended, but they do not have to be in the same plane as the boundary. Break also works better. Breaking entities that were not parallel to the UCS has been an uncertain operation in which AutoCAD reflected the selected break point off of the UCS so the entity was actually broken at another location. Now, an entity is broken at the pick point. Picking overlapping entities, which commonly occur in surface models, is easier. You can now hold down <Ctrl> as you make a pick, and AutoCAD will select the bottom-most entity and highlight it. If this entity isn't the one you want, continue to pick on the stack as you hold down <Ctrl>. AutoCAD will work its way up until you accept an entity or until it reaches the top, in which case, it will cycle back to the bottom. This feature is especially useful For those commands (such as rulesurf) that won't accept a window or a crossing selection. Release 13 has a command, named group that allows you group existing entities together with a name. Then, you can use this group name to build a selection set. Members of a group do not need to have anything in common, except that you want them to be grouped together. Groups will be useful when you are working with a crowded 3D model. A new wireframe entity, which goes by the name of spline, is similar to a 3D polyline in that it has zero width and it can twist and turn through 3D space. Unlike a 3D polyline, it is always smoothly curved. Splines can be trimmed, stretched, and broken, but there is no provision for moving their control points. The new spline ellipse will also be useful for wireframes because you can draw just the section of the ellipse you need. You'll no longer have to draw a complete ellipse and then trim it to obtain the portion you want. John Wilson is a mechanical engineer with over 15 years experience. He is the president of Computer Based Drafting in St. Louis Parh, Minn.

(Mogu li da rade u ACADu 12 for Windows?) - Kako izvršiti povezivanje (i eventualno, malo, rotiranje) ovih karata u jednu veliku?

> - Kako izvršiti povezivanje (i eventualno, malo, rotiranje) > ovih karata u jednu veliku? Uz pomoć gore navedenog softvera.

Izgleda da me nisi razumeo.

> Izgleda da me nisi razumeo.

New Entities in Release 13 ***Associative leaders LEADER From point: To point: To point (Format/Annotation/Undo)< Annotation>: AutoCAD leaders are now true entities, created by the LEADER command. The leader text, however, is not a part of the actual leader entity, but is an MTEXT entity which needs to be moved separately (hint: use the stretch command or grips when moving leader text). Use the format option to select straight line segments or splined and whether to draw arrows or not. Use the annotation option to select what type of item to place at the end of the leader, either the default mtext, a block insert, or a tolerance entity. Use dimension styles to control the appearance of leaders by setting the parameters for the leader dimstyle family Note: Leaders created the old way -- from the DIM: prompt -- are not associative. See also: Command Reference: LEADER, DDIM, DDMODIFY Sysvars: DIMCLRT, DIMGAP, DIMTXT, DIMTXTSTY, DIMSTYLE, DIMASO ***Construction lines XLINE Hor/Ver/Ang/Bisect/Offset/<From point>: Construction lines extend for an infinite distance in either one (for rays) or two (for xlines) directions without affecting the drawing extents, but otherwise act as normal entities. They will even plot unless the layer they are placed on is turned off or frozen. See also: Command Reference: RAY, XLINE Users Guide: Chapter 3: Drawing with Precision ***Ellipses This is a true mathematical ellipse, no longer one approximated by a splined polyline. This means that ellipses now have center points and quadrants, all of which can be snapped to (and which also display grips). The isocircle option is used to create "circles" when drawing in an isometric plane. While it is not possible to convert older spline-type ellipses to Release 13 ellipses, it is possible to create them, by changing the system variable PELLIPSE from 0 to 1. See also: Command Reference: ELLIPSE Sysvars: PELLIPSE ***Geometric Tolerancing The TOLERANCE command creates geometric tolerances, which define allowable variations from the exact geometry defined in a mechanical drawing. Tolerances can also be created using the Annotation option of the LEADER command. See also: Command Reference: TOLERANCE, LEADER Sysvars: DIMLCLRE, DIMCLRT, DIMGAP, DIMTXT, DIMTXTSTY, DIMSTYLE, DIMASO ***Multiple parallel lines The mline entity allows for the definition of parallel line styles with up to 16 elements. Since linetype styles can now include shapes in their definitions, mline styles can be created (with the mlstyle command) to represent such things as walls complete with insulation, or railroad tracks. Mlines can have a background fill color, but can not have rounded joints or curved segments. MLEDIT is used to change how intersecting mlines appear, allowing the user to perform simple Boolean operations when joining and splitting mlines. See also: Command Reference: MLINE, MLEDIT, MLSTYLE Sysvars: CMLJUST, CMLSTYLE ***OLE objects AutoCAD can now accept embedded or linked objects from other OLE applications, such as Microsoft Word or Lotus 1-2-3 for Windows. To insert an OLE object, select any portion of the document in the other, copy it to the clipboard and then use the PASTESPEC command, or select Paste Special from the Edit menu. Use the command OLELINKS to list or change any of the OLE objects in the drawing. OLE objects do not plot and are not visible on platforms other than Windows and Windows NT. See also: Command Reference: COPYLINK, OLELINKS, PASTESPEC ***Overlaid Xrefs Overlays are an enhancement to Xrefs, allowing you to reference one drawing, and that drawing only, even if it contains Xref or overlay attachments of its own. For example, if a drawing of a floor layout Xrefs several drawings containing electrical wiring, gas lines, and other utilities, attaching the floor drawing to a drawing of the reflected ceiling plan will show all of those drawings, while attaching the floor drawing as an overlay will show only the floor layout in the reflected ceiling plan. Insert an overlay using the Overlay option of the XREF command. See also: Command Reference: XREF Sysvars: XREFCTL, VISRETAIN ***Paragraph text MTEXT Attach/Rotation/Style/Height/Direction/Insertion point>: The MTEXT command is used to create the new multi-line text entity. Its major advantages are word-wrapping, the ability to change fonts and font attributes - such as color, height, or obliqueing - within one line or paragraph (with the style option), and the ability to define the bounding box for the text, as well as where the insertion point is relative to that box (with the attach option). The new spell checking function works only with mtext entities, not the older text entity. See also: Command Reference: MTEXT, MTPROP, SPELL Sysvars: MTEXTED, FONTALT, FONTMAP, TEXTFILL, TEXTQLTY, TEXTSIZE, TEXTSTYLE ***Splines True mathematically-defined splines are a replacement for spline-fit polylines with lots of short line and arc segments. The SPLINE command is used to create splines, and its Object option converts existing splined polylines to true spline entities. See also: Command Reference: SPLINE, SPLINEDIT Sysvars SPLFRAME ***3D Solids Release 13's native solid entities and editing commands replace the AME program, and most of its functionality. The commands used to create 3D solids are: BOX, CONE, CYLINDER, SPHERE, TORUS, EXTRUDE, REVOLVE and WEDGE. Editing commands specific to solids are: UNION, SUBTRACT, INTERSECT, SECTION, SLICE. Also, many of the standard editing commands now work on solids, including FILLET, CHAMFER, TRIM, and EXTEND. Use the AMECONVERT command to translate AME models when opening a Release 11 or 12 drawing. Regions are also now defined as native ACIS entities. For information on creating and editing solids, see Chapter 11 in the AutoCAD User's Guide.
