Gotovo prvenstvo.
Kad Šumi u Nemačkoj ništa nije uradio, teško da će nešto i u Monzi,
tj. možda će biti 3. da se baš usreći.
Mika je izgubio i najvećeg konkurenta za bodove - Kultarda, pošto je
ovaj izjavio kako vidi da nema šanse za šampionat, i da neće ni pokušavati
da ga prestigne, te sad bukvalno nema ko da ga stigne.
Možda u Mađarskoj, ako Ferrari nešto ućari (ovi izlete, ili tako nešto..)
inače, kraj.
BTW, zna li neko šta se juče desilo sa Ralfom? Mali je stiskao one
Mclarene, totalno šašavo. :) Sećam se, prolazi Ralf pored boxa, negde u
osmom, devetom krugu, i samo vidiš na tabli (iz boxa) piše - "Ralf, PUSH!"

Pa imo je manje goriva, zato ih je i drzao onako.. Posle se zaglavio
iza Frencena, pa je mogo da se slika.

Na kvalifikacijama za Mid-Ohio najbrzi je bio Dario Franchitti,
Vasser drugi, a Herta treci.. Zanardi tek negde oko 13. mesta.

Adrian Fernandez je pobedio na danasnjoj trci u Mih-Ohaju ispred
Pruetta. Trka je bila prepuna nepotrebnih incidenata.. inace, Zanardi
je zavrsio na 12. mestu -- ocigledno bolid nije bio dobar danas, ali
bice bolje vec u Elkart lejku 16. avgusta.
Kako ni Vasser ni Moore nisu zavrsili trku situacija sa poenima je
ista kao i pre ove trke:

Btw, obojica su kaznjena sa $50,000: Moore zbog gluposti koju je
napravio u boksu, a Zanardi zbog agresivne voznje (izazvao je incident
koji je prouzrokovao ono prevrtanje Andrettija i izbacio Nevesa iz
trke -- mada, po mom misljenju Helio je pogresio sto se nije sklonio
vec je krivinu pokusao da prodje side-by-side sa Zanardijem).

Btw, da li je neko gledao juce Elkart lejk? Opaka trka.. Zanardi zavrsio
kao drugi posle problema na pocetku trke, nadoknadio nekih 15-tak pozicija
i usput na putu do podijuma izbacio Unsera iz trke. :)
E,sad, posto mi je istekla internet pretplata neka neko skokne do

Hmm, ne znam dal si gledo proshlogodishnju trku, al chika Dejmon je
proshle godine neshto shto je duplo teze od "onoga shto je Shumaher izveo",
chak ga je i komotno obishao na stazi na kojoj je to jedva moguce, sa bolidom
koji je kanda loshiji od onog Ferarija.. Vilnev ti je (ako nisi slushao ili
ako nisi imao gde da chujesh) u drugoj polovini trke vukao ista prosechna
vremena kao i Sh. u onom njegovom podvigu, bez da je izleteo sa staze ;).
Shalu na stranu, vec rekoh: Da je sa Hakinenom sve bilo u redu Sh.
definitivno ne bi uspeo. I da, ne navijam za Hakinena vec za Alezija ;).

sa manje goriva od ostalih, to je i Mika komotno mogao da izvede.. Da su u
Meklarenu bili pametni i da su pustili Kultarda odmah da prestigne Hakinena,
chim je ovom otkazao menjach, Sh. bi definitivno bio drugi, a nikako prvi..

No, ti si pre par meseci nekoliko puta izjavio da se samo titule broje,
bez obzira u kom sportu (tipa, došli do finala, nisu osvojili, pih..).

E, upravo to ti pričam.
Čika Dejmon je bio drugi na toj trci, upravo zahvaljujući Šumaheru,
koji je, ako se sećaš imao slične probleme kao Mika juče, ali je bez
problema zatvarao sve prolaze, i ladno omogući Dejmonu da sa onim
TWRom, napravi 30 sekundi razlike.
Dejmonu, skidamo kapu za vožnju te godine .. pitanje je, zašto Mika
nije zatvarao ostale vozače danas, a mogao je da izdrži tih zadnjih
5-10 krugova kad su krenuli da ga obilaze, bez blama. Uostalom, niko
njega, sem Vilneva, nije obišao na ravnom delu staze, a i to je mogao
da saseče.

Bigaje, da igraju pošteno, Kultard bi ga odavno prešao i borio se
sa Šumaherom .. al' kad se igraš sa vatrom, ponekad moraš i da se
opečeš, zar ne? ;)
Teško će neko Šumahera dobiti njegovim oružjem. Ipak se on dobrano
izučio u zadržavanju protivnika, na svakojake načine.

Ok, ako ti kažeš da ti verujem. Prosto je neverovatno, kad je to

Upravo tako .. ko će za 20 godina da se seća kakvi su vozači bili

Riknula zadnja leva (lr) guma. Andretti po ko zna koji put ispada zbog

Btw, sledeca trka je u Vancouveru 6. septembra. Podsecam da je Zanardi
prosle godine skoro :) izveo nemoguce na toj stazi.. sada su promenili
layout staze -- koliko sam cuo, nije vise ulicna :( vec tipicna road staza.
Uz poruku je novi layout. (koristite sea za gledanje slike)

Jel ti znash koji je problem imao Shumaher proshle godine? Slichan
Mikinom? Pa jeste, gume imaju veze sa menjachem, ista stvar.. Miki je falila
najmanje jedna niza brzina, zato nije mogao da povlachi iz onih sporijih
krivina i zato su ga prestizali gde su i kako su stigli.

Franchitti Wins Road America
CART Online (August 16, 1998) -- Dario Franchitti scored a triumph
befitting the United Nations while posting his first career FedEx
Championship Series victory in Sunday's Texaco/Havoline 200 before a
crowd of 75,000 at Road America.
Franchitti (KOOL Reynard Honda), a native Scot of Italian ancestry,
ended a three-year victory drought for a team owned by New Zealander
Barry Green by driving to a 7.102-second victory over series points
leader Alex Zanardi (Target Reynard Honda). Christian Fittipaldi
(Kmart Swift Ford) finished third, his best effort since finishing in
the same position at Vancouver in 1996.
Franchitti became the first Scotsman to win a Champ Car race since Jim
Clark was victorious in the 1965 Indianapolis 500. He also collected
the first FedEx Championship Series victory for a Green-owned car
since Jacques Villeneuve won at Cleveland in 1995.
Franchitti, making his 30th career start, led a race-high 23 of 50
laps and took the lead for good on the 30th lap of the 4.048-mile
permanent road course. In a game of pit strategies, he built a lead of
as much as 27.582 seconds over Adrian Fernandez (Tecate/Quaker
State/Labatt Reynard Ford) before his final pit stop on Lap 42, when
he took on fuel and four tires during an unofficial 10.7- second stop.
Fernandez and Fittipaldi, running third, also pitted on Lap 42,
allowing Franchitti to emerge with an 11.673-second lead over
pole-sitter Michael Andretti (Kmart/Texaco/Havoline Swift Ford) on Lap
43. Franchitti maintained the advantage at six or more seconds for the
balance of the event.
Zanardi, who fell back to 24th place on Lap 7 after being involved in
contact with Al Unser Jr. (Marlboro Penske Mercedes) on the opening
lap, rebounded from the incident to reach the podium. He ran strong
while also benefiting from late-race misfortune befalling Andretti,
who cut a tire on the final lap while running second, to collect his
11th podium finish in 14 events.
Fittipaldi, who overcame severe neck pain prior to the start of the
race, scored a season-best finish, topping his previous best of fourth
established at the season opener at Homestead. Rounding out the
top-five finishers were rookie Tony Kanaan (LCI Reynard Honda), who
matched a season best established at Portland, and Fernandez, who
claimed his seventh top-five finish of the season and moved into third
place in the FedEx Championship Series points race, with 120.
Zanardi holds an 80-point lead (206-126) over Target/Chip Ganassi
Racing teammate Jimmy Vasser (Target Reynard Honda) in the PPG Cup
race heading into the Sept. 6 Molson Indy Vancouver. Vasser finished
ninth Sunday, his 45th points-paying result in his past 47 starts,
dating to the 1995 season finale at Laguna Seca.
WHAT THEY'RE SAYING
DARIO FRANCHITTI, KOOL Reynard Honda: "It was very difficult to pass
anybody on track, so I just concentrated on good stops and quick 'out'
laps. After the last stop, I saw 'plus-10' on the pit board, and that
kind of worried me, because that's exactly what it said in Toronto
before I went off [after leading 76 of the first 79 laps]. I was
slowing it down and being cautious on the brakes the last couple of
laps and cruising it home. I could really run fast after the last stop
because of the fuel mileage we were getting. The guys at Team KOOL
Green are going to have a party tonight. They did a great job. The
stops were awesome. And I hope this [victory] is the first of many."
ALEX ZANARDI, Target Reynard Honda: "Congratulations to Christian
[Fittipaldi], he's had some tough luck and it's about time that he
gets a good result. I'm really happy for both him and Dario
[Franchitti]. They're both good guys and they deserve good results. It
was a great race after Lap 1. That was very unfortunate. In the short
chute between Turns 1 and 2, I saw a puff of smoke. Everybody stopped,
and that wasn't even the braking point. The first thing I did was hit
the brake, but it wasn't soon enough. After that, we had to take an
aggressive strategy, and thanks to my boys [in the pit crew], it paid
off. I'm happy for the way I raced, although I'm disappointed for what
happened on Lap 1. It's exactly what I wouldn't need after what
happened last week [when he was placed on probation]."
CHRISTIAN FITTIPALDI, Kmart Swift Ford: "I honestly don't know what
happened [to create his sore neck]. This has never happened before.
This morning, I went out and did five laps and after I came in, I
could hardly turn my head. I took a shot and I took a couple of
Advils, but when we went out to do the parade laps, I thought I was
done. Then my neck started getting hot and I started feeling better.
Other than that, the race was fine. We had a good day. We've had a
hard time getting back here since the last time. We have five more
races to go, and hopefully, I can visit you guys again and we can get
ready for next year."
WHAT'S NOTEWORTHY
Ě CART Chief Steward Wally Dallenbach announced following Sunday's
Texaco/Havoline 200 that no action will be taken against Alex Zanardi,
who currently is on probation and was involved in an opening-lap
incident with Al Unser Jr. "After reviewing the tapes and interviewing
several drivers, it was apparent that Alex took evasive action to
avoid his incident, which was triggered by nose-to-tail contact
between the No. 5 [nose of Gil de Ferran] and 20 [tail of Scott
Pruett] cars in front of them," Dallenbach said. "Alex's wheels were
locked up before the contact. It was deemed a racing incident."
Zanardi was placed on probation for "unjustifiable risk" following
last week's Miller Lite 200 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
Dallenbach said that the incident involving Alex Barron remains under
review pending further information, and no decision will be reached
today. Barron went off course and made contact with the disabled car
of Bryan Herta on Lap 11.
Dallenbach also announced that Paul Tracy was removed from probation
prior to Sunday's Texaco/Havoline 200. Tracy had been on probation
following the June 7 ITT Automotive Detroit Grand Prix for
"unjustifiable risk." "I have been pleased with Paul's driving in the
last couple of races and I decided that he would be removed from his
probationary status prior to Sunday's race," Dallenbach said.
Ě Dario Franchitti (KOOL Reynard Honda) became the sixth international
driver in the past seven years to win at Road America following
Brazilian Emerson Fittipaldi (1992), Canadians Paul Tracy (1993) and
Jacques Villeneuve (1994 and '95), and Italian Alex Zanardi (1997).
Michael Andretti (1996) is the lone American winner at Road America in
that span.
Ě Franchitti became the fourth different driver to claim his first
career FedEx Championship Series victory at Road America. He follows
Hector Rebaque (1982), Jacques Villeneuve (uncle of the 1995 PPG Cup
winner Jacques Villeneuve, 1985), and the younger Villeneuve in 1994.
Ě Franchitti's victory was the ninth of the season for Honda, and the
first since Andre Ribeiro's in the Marlboro 500 at Michigan Speedway
in 1996 by a driver who is not a member of the Honda-powered
Target/Chip Ganassi Racing Team.
Ě The victory was the 13th in a row for Firestone and its 24th in the
past 25 FedEx Championship Series events.
Ě Bobby Rahal (Miller Lite Reynard Ford) finished eighth, extending

Rookie of the Year race with his fourth-place finish. He now holds a
58-33 advantage over Helio Castro-Neves (Alumax Aluminum Reynard

Ě By leading 18 laps, Michael Andretti (Kmart/Texaco/Havoline Swift
Ford) surpassed his total laps led in road or street course events for
the season. Andretti entered Sunday's event with 389 laps led to date,
but only 13 were on road or street courses.
Ě Arnd Meier (Hassroder/J.A.G. Lola Ford) finished a career-best 10th
Sunday, exceeding a previous career-best 12th established last year at
Michigan and equaled this season at Portland.
Ě Scott Pruett's (Visteon Reynard Ford) exit due to engine
difficulties on Lap 25 ended a streak of five consecutive top-six
finishes and eight consecutive finishes with PPG Cup points.
Ě When rookie JJ Lehto (Hogan Motor Leasing, Inc. Reynard Mercedes)
led Lap 28, it marked the second time this season that he had led at
least a lap. Lehto led five laps at Long Beach earlier this season.
Ě Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson declared Sunday as "Bobby Rahal
Day" throughout the state. Rahal, a three-time PPG Cup champion (1986,
'87, '92), is retiring as a driver at the conclusion of this, his 17th
season, which has been dubbed "Rahal's Last Ride," by primary sponsor
Miller Brewing. Thompson read a proclamation in Rahal's honor and
presented him with a crystal vase bearing his likeness during pre-race
ceremonies.
Ě Entertainer David Letterman, a part owner of Team Rahal, attended
his first race of the FedEx Championship Series season Sunday.
Letterman joined Team Rahal prior to the 1996 season.
Ě When Andretti earned the pole position for the Texaco/Havoline 200
Saturday, it marked the first FedEx Championship Series pole for an
American-made chassis since Gordon Johncock drove a Wildcat to the
pole position at The Milwaukee Mile on June 12, 1982.
Ě The Marlboro Pole Award rollover bonus went unclaimed for the 21st
consecutive event Sunday, meaning that the potential Marlboro Pole
Award payout at the Sept. 6 Molson Indy Vancouver is a record
$340,000, including $330,000 in rollover funds. The Molson Indy
Vancouver will mark more than one year since the bonus, which grows at
a rate of $15,000 per event until a victory from the pole is recorded,
was last claimed by Zanardi at Cleveland.

RW je uspeo da se dogura na front row tako sto je u svom poslednjem krugu

E,sad, za ocekivati je da se sutra za prvu poziciju bore Biaggi i Doohan.
Mick je rekao da ocekuje da ce Criville, Max i on zavrsiti na podijumu,
mada ja nisam toliko siguran sto se tice Alexa. Carlos Checa je i danas
pao sa motora i ne verujem da ce uspeti da se popne na podijum. Sto se tice
Bejla... uzeo je pole '96, a prosle godine je dovukao Modenas na front row
na kvalifikacijama, ali nije nista posebno uradio oba puta za vreme trke.
Doohan je danas jedini konstanto vozio niske 2:02 krugove i par puta usao
u 2:01, tako da ja tipujem na njega sutra. Biaggi mi deluje kao jedini
kandidat za drugo mesto, mozda cak i za pobedu ukoliko budu nasli bolji
setup sutra na treningu, a ko ce biti treci pojma nemam. Alex Criville?

Kultard je imao izbora - da propusti Mihela da prodje, ali ne on je namerno
zakocio da bi se Shumaher zakucao u njegov zadnji deo, dok Shumaher da nebi
izleteo sa staze dokacio zadnjim delom Hakkinena i posle je Mikin bolid
zakacio neko od vozaca (nisam video ko) i otkinuo mu tocak. Da Shumaher nije
skrenuo izleteo bi sa staze. Zbog slicne situacije prosle godine FIA je
oduzela Shumaheru vice-shampionsku titulu (ako se nevaram to je bilo u
Spaniji, na zadnjoj trci grand prix-a

BTW, sad sam prosurfovao par sajtova, Šumaher je optužio Dejva,
da je pokušao da ga ubije :), na šta mu je dotični odgovorio da
je dobio naređenje iz boxa da ga propusti, a to što je on usporio
tačno na izlasku iz (ako se dobro sećam) Pouhon krivine, je njegova
stvar.
Naravno, kad si 3 desetinke iza čoveka, a ovaj odluči da ukoči
tamo gde treba da se ide 200 na sat, šta se drugo može očekivati?
Anyway, posle su obojica pozvana do direktora trke da daju izjave,
koje još uvek nisu objavljene. Sad ćemo čekati arbitražu ...

!? Pa do sudara je došlo pošto je Kultard izašao iz krivine i na snimku
se lepo vidi kako se drži desne strane staze. Nema ni govora o bilo kakvom
isecanju što ćeš i videti ako pogledaš snimak ponovo. Ono o čemu se može
pričati je da li je došlo do nepravdnog&ničim izazvanog kočenja od strane
Kultarda a zbog čega se Šumaher zakucao u njega. Ja posmatrajući snimak
par puta na TVu nisam primetio neke znake naglog kočenja a koji bi svakako
trebalo da se vide na onakvoj stazi. Možda grešim ali mi se čini da
Kultard jednostavno nije dodao gas po izlasku iz krivine dok je Šumaher,
verovatno iznerviran što ga ovaj nije ranije propustio, "legao" na gas
očekujući da to isto uradi i njegov rival i krenuo da ga pretekne. Rezultat
toga je da se onako zakucao u njega. Interesantno je da se slična
situacija ponovila i malo kasnije sa Fizikelom i Nakanom.

Pa ako nije pokušavao da zatvori Šumahera, već mu je ono standardan
prolazak kroz krivinu, onda i bolje što je izleteo, nego da se blamira
na stazi. ;)
Obrni situaciju. Zamisli Šumahera ispred Hakinena, a ovaj ga prestiže
sa spoljne strane. Hakinen ga obilazi, blagi kontakt, Šumaher se okreće
i ispada => rezultat - par desetina poruka na sezamu, identične sadržine:
"tako i treba švabi, kad zatvara onog ko je brži".
Viđeno već hiljadu puta, toliko da je utvrđeno gradivo.
Kad Šumaher izleti, svi se raduju, srećni, Hakinen je bio 3x brži :),
a kad Hakija izleti, Šumaher srećnik, na prevaru dobija trke. Incident
od Šumahera - pu, đubre švapsko, treba ga streljati ... incident na
Šumaher - Kultard Bog, Kultard genije, tako ti treba Švabo ...
Mislim, formula stvarno postaje odvratna.
Sledeća trka je u Monci, i treba Irvine da se zakuca u Hakinena u prvoj
šikani, odmah posle starta, a da potom kaže da su mu otkazale kočnice. ;)
Zar ćemo svi da budemo ludi i da mu verujemo da su otkazale kočnice?

Eddie bar nije nikad stukao Hakinena ili Vilneva kad su ga dotični
obilazili za krug, a nije da nije imao šanse.
Druga stvar, Eddie je u Japanu branio svoju poziciju. On nije bio
dužan nikog da pusti, koliko god sporiji bio. S druge strane, Dejv
je na ovoj stazi obilažen za krug, i nije branio nikakvu poziciju.
Poređenje je smešno.

Postoji razlika u kočenju pri ulasku u krivinu, i pri izlasku

Dosta rasprave, možemo mi da se pravimo ludi, i da kažemo da je
Kultard zakočio jer je hteo da što pre pusti Šumahera da prođe :),
isto tako možemo da kažemo i da je Šumaher junački obišao Irvine-a
na svim dosadašnjim stazama, a da ovaj u principu nije hteo da ga
pusti.
Svi možemo da se pravimo ludi, ali ovo nije sudnica, ovde ne treba
ništa da se dokazuje, sve je proceni Bernija, ili neke komisije,
ukoliko je formiraju. Za dan-dva, videćemo ko je bio u pravu.

Šta kako izgleda? Kad ti neko pri brzini od 200 na sat pred nosom ukoči
ko mutav (na 250 metara od krivine) kako to nazivaš. A podsetimo se da je
ove sezone Šumaher već imao problema sa sličnim budalama koje su pri
brzinama i od čak preko 300 km/h pokušavali nemoguće manevre od kojih je
neko mogao da pogine. Kad je Šumaher preduzeo takav manevar? Ajde,
osvetnici! I zašto Kultard taj ceo krug nije hteo da propusti bržeg vozača
nego je jurcao kao da je na prvom mestu a onda na najzgodnijem mestu
prikočio kao da je ugledao crnu mačku? Šta sad treba Irvajn da uradi u
Monci? Da se zakuca u Hakinena na ulasku u Parabolicu a mlaši Šumaher da
eliminiše Kultarda zaletanjem u box McLarena još pre kvalifikacija.

Jesi ti ikad vozio bar karting, a da ne pričam o nečem jačem? I da li
uopšte imaš vozaćku dozvolu? A oko batina i slično, nešto mi se Kultard
čudno ponašao kad ga je Šumi napao. Nije smeo ni kacigu da skine a ipak je
krupniji od Mihaela.

Šta je uradio? Ko se služio sumnjivim uređajima na bolidu i ko je
dogovarao rezultat poslednje trke prošle sezone sa Williamsom?

O čemu ti to pričaš? Ono što je Hakinena upropastilo na ovoj trci je
njegova očigledna glupost i ne znanje. Kad ga je Šumaher već obišao skoro
celom dužinom bolida Hakinen je umesto da nastavi trku skretao levo ka
ogradi. U tom trenutku je uleteo u putanju zadnjeg desnog točka Ferrarija.
Šta je trenalo Šumaher da radi? Da sačeka i pita Hakinena da li je ovaj
spreman ili mu opet kvačilo ne fukncioniše. A možda bi mu bilo po volji da
je ovaj rekao "I am for West". Biće zanimljivo kako će Mika i Kultard da
se provuku do staze na sledećoj trci (Monza). Verovatno će morati
helikopterom da ih dovedu. A tek ako Šumeher ne pobedi baš me zanima kako
će se McLareni probiti posle trke do boxa.

Šta, bre, malo sutra. Evo, upravo gledam snimak i lepo se vidi. Šumaher
ide prema zidu. Za njim i Hakinen. Šumaher je brži i Hakinen udara u
zadnji točak Ferrarija. Za to vreme, Mihale još uvek ne skreće ka pravcu
nego i dalje ide prema zidu. Mika se okreće, Mihael mota desno i izlazi
iza Irvajna. Zanimljivo je i to da je Kultard zakočio na mestu gde se ni u
ludilu ne koči već se još ubrzava. Čak posle tog mesta sledi prelazak u
petu brzinu pa tek onda ulazak u brzu i dugu levu krivinu. Idealna putanja
je ona po kojoj su vozili Kultard i Šumaher a kako je Kultard bio dužan da
propusti bržeg od sebe, tu je imao priliku. Neki bi rekli da je i
iskoristio.

Q. Congratulations, Damon, on your first victory since you won the world
championship in 1996. It must be a great feeling ...
DH: This is a great day for Jordan. To win our first GP and get a
one-two result is a fantastic result. We were strong all weekend, it has
been a very exciting race, I am absolutely delighted ... in fact I am
lost for words.
Q. Everyone was astonished to see you take the lead at La Source after
the second start ...
DH: Well, I got lucky because I had made a mess of the first start --
and then it was aborted because of the crash. But I made a beautiful
second start and once I got away I was looking good. The trouble was
that I had the car set up for a race that [I expected to be] getting
drier. That really made it a difficult race for me.
Q. What was your reaction after Michael had passed you when you found
him driving slowly round to the pits with only three wheels?
DH: I didn't actually see his car, but I heard by radio that he was out
of the race. But you don't have time to be emotional about things like
that. It's a very responsible position to be in when you're leading a
race, so I focused on doing what I needed to do to hold the lead.
Q. Your team mate Ralf Schumacher stayed close to you after the final
restart. Were you at all concerned that he might try to find a way past
you?
DH: It was always going to be quite close after the Safety Car had
been sent out, and I knew that Ralf would be pushing me all the way to
the finish because he didn't have very much space between himself and
Jean [Alesi] behind him. So I had to push as hard as I could. Then it
started to get a bit drier and the tyres began to go off, so I was under
pressure all the way.
Q. How did the battle with Michael go early on?
DH: I don't know what happens here. [Michael] seems to be able to change
the weather depending on what he wants. From the start, it looked to me
as though he had more downforce. I went for the intermediates on the
grid and after the restart I went for a lower downforce setting in the
assumption that it was going to get better. It worked for a few laps and
then it started to rain again, and it worked against me. Michael was
able to close and then get past. It was quite a tricky race. There was
one point when I went to go past a Prost at Stavelot and he didn't see
me and we touched. He got a bit of a fright.
Q. At one point you were on the grass at the bus stop ...
DH: It was very tricky conditions today. It was never raining really
hard, but it was raining at different parts of the circuit. Some parts
were very wet, some parts were not so wet. Visibility was terrible. Lots
of incidents, lots of people going off, so there was a hell of a lot to
look out for.
Q. Ralf, congratulations on your first podium finish since Argentina
last year. How does it feel?
RS: I am obviously very happy, both for the team and for us two. We
had a very bad start to this season which made things difficult. It
has all turned around now with first and second places here -- with
a bit of luck, I must admit -- but I think this was a good, strong
performance. We had to struggle a bit at the beginning because of making
the wrong tyre choice, but then it went OK and after the Safety Car made
its second appearance we just settled for the one-two. We had to keep
pushing, though, because Jean was so close behind.
Q. At the first start, before all those cars began crashing, you seemed
to anticipate what was going to happen, and you pulled over and almost
stopped. What had you seen?
RS: It was quite funny because I just spotted a McLaren [sideways]
in front of me and then I saw the mess going on all around me. So I
moved my car left, parked it in neutral and waited ... just in time to
see an Arrows suddenly missing me by about ten centimetres. Then when
everything had settled, I just engaged a gear and went through.
Q. Jean, was this an equally unexpected first podium for you and Sauber?
JA: Of course, yes. This is unbelievable for the team because so far we
hadn't seen such a level of competition between different cars. With
so many cars usually finishing the races we have had a problem getting
points. It was only in conditions like these that we have a possibility
of getting any points at all, so I am really happy for the team that we
have taken four really important points.
Q. Once the Safety Car had been withdrawn for the second time, you were
able to get close to Damon and Ralf. Were you tempted to try to pass
them?
JA: No, to be honest I was able to run behind them at the same speed,
but it would have been absolutely impossible to try anything because the
visibility was zero. In fact I was quite surprised when the Safety Car
was brought in and we were allowed to race again, because I personally
believe that it was still extremely dangerous. It was particularly bad
on the straights where there were cars abandoned by the side of road and
we were aquaplaning. That could have been extremely dangerous.
Q. But you were really pushing hard towards the end ...
JA: Sometimes Peter [Sauber] was saying 'slow, slow!' That was quite
funny for me, but I was very concentrated to stay on the circuit. The
conditions were changing non-stop. It was tough, especially at the
beginning with intermediates. When I put full wet tyres on it was quite
easy except for visibility.

Schumacher blames Coulthard

"I am very annoyed about what happened," said Michael Schumacher
shortly after he retired from the Belgian Grand Prix, following a
crash with McLaren's driver, David Coulthard. "It was clear that we
would have taken the lead in the championship, as I was by far the
fastest car on the track. Coulthard seemed to be running 5 to 6
seconds slower than his real pace once I was behind him. When he
rejoined the race he was much quicker again. Obviously lifting on the
straight like he did when I hit him is very dangerous. He has the
experience to know that you do not slow down on a straight like that
without giving any warning. So one could think he did it
deliberately."
Ferrari team boss joined Schumacher in his criticism over Coulthard,
saying: "What happened to Michael is very serious. He was stuck behind
Coulthard for over a lap, despite the waved blue flags. The McLaren
driver slowed down noticeably on the straight when doing around 200
km/h. The deceleration was violent and in the wet conditions the
impact was inevitable. The consequences of this incident could have
been much more serious."
However, David Coulthard rejected the accusation. "(Schumacher) came
into the garage saying that I tried to kill him...I find his behaviour
totally unacceptable. If he wanted to discuss it, man to man, there
wouldn't have been a problem. If he wants to accuse me of things like
that then I have no interest in talking to him. The allegations he
made were untrue. I have given my side of this. Michael Schumacher has
given his. I am 100 percent certain that I did nothing wrong. I could
see him coming from the the previous corner. In those conditions, like
that, you are not looking in your mirrors all the time. The team had
asked me to move across and tuck in on the right to keep out of his
way. I did that and then he just drove straight into the back of my
car. I did nothing wrong. I think what Michael said and did is
disgusting, especially accusing me of trying to kill him."
On another clash Shcumacher had with McLaren, the German also
commented, referring to the incident at the start which saw him
overtake Hakkinen, who subsequently spun out of the race. "At the
second start I was on the outside of Hakkinen and I tried to leave a
bit of room. He was forcing me a bit wide, but I had the better line
and could accelerate better out of the corner. It is very
disappointing to still be seven points behind in the championship,
when I could have left Spa with a three point lead."

patiš od jednog vrlo specifičnog oblika amnezije. Svima vama koji
ga simpatizirate, u trenucima dok morališete o njegovom karakteru i
ljudskim vrijednostima treba da je pred očima slika događaja sa posljednje
trke prošle sezone, nečega što svakako prelazi okvire sportskog nadmetanja
i zalazi u oblast kriminalistike. Reći ću ti ono što sam mali milion puta
na raznim mjestima izjavio: Da Formula 1 nije je*eni biznis u kojem se
kao i u svakom drugom biznisu po svaku cijenu štiti onaj koji donosi
pare, Mihael Šumaher je zbog onog što je tada učinio, prema svim
civilizacijskim normama, trebao doživotno da izgubi superlicencu i da
bude krivično gonjen.
Neodređenost i tolerancija Međunarodne federacije za auto-sport iskazana
u tom incidentu, kao i u svim onima koji su mu prethodili i onima koji su
se desili ove sezone, morala je nešto da ima za posljedicu - kad može
Šumaher, što ne bi mogli i mi... s prljavima ne možeš izaći na kraj ako
i sam ne igraš prljavo...
