From: David Simpson <dsimp@tbsa.com.au> Subject: 425DXNEWS: Home Page Indexes Firstly, Happy New Year to all from sunny Melbourne!! A quick notice that the URL in the signature below is for my home page which also carries growing indexes of home pages for fellow ham radio operators. If you have not visited yet, please take a look next time you are browsing, the home page indexes carry many links to Australian and International home pages, many of which are very well constructed and some are quite clever, not to mention useful. My main page carries many links to daily propagation reports (graphical), and caters especially for HF DX enthusiasts, plus some interesting cyber-tours of Australia. If you have a radio-related home page, let me know and I will add it to the index. Best wishes and thanks for reading this. *************************************** VK3NDS David Simpson Email: dsimp@tbsa.com.au Packet: vk3nds@vk3bbs >>>INTERNET HOME PAGE<<< http://www.tbsa.com.au/~dsimp/ ***************************************

Thanks also to the "big guns" who, notwithstanding they contacted all the countries (except P5) expressed their appreciation about our initiative, offering useful suggestions for the future. The following list, which considers the 48 most wanted Countries, reports at first three places, as it was foreseeable, North Korea, Heard Island and Bhutan. This situation is to be changed by the forthcoming operations of VK0IR, which, if the expedition is succesful, will delete Heard from the Most Wanted list. About Scarborough Reef a probable activity on a grand scale is planned by OH2BH in May. No short-time activity from Bhutan, but for Auckland (presumably in the next first three Countries after the VK0IR operations) a DXpedition is on the way, planned for 1999, by ZL8RI group. Patience is a virtue - the Bouvet expedition, organized by the South Sandwich Island Antarctic DX Group, will not take place until December 1997 (but it is possible a delay to 1998), but it should be a successful one. Another imminent change should come from the forthcoming operations from St.Peter & St.Paul Rocks (currently at the 10th place). /==========================================================================\ |Pos.| Pfx, Paese |Pos.| Pfx, Paese |Pos.| Pfx, Paese | |----|--------------------|----|-------------------|----|------------------| | 1 | P5 North Korea | 17 | FT_Z Amsterdam | 33 | KP5 Desecheo | | 2 | VK0 Heard | 18 | PY0 Peter & Paul| 34 | KH4 Midway | | 3 | A5 Bhutan | 19 | E3 Eritrea | 35 | 3B9 Rodriguez | | 4 | ZL9 Auckland | 20 | FO0 Clipperton | 36 | ST0 So.Sudan | | 5 | BS7 Scarborough | 21 | VK9 Willis | 37 | 7O Yemen | | 6 | KH5K Kingman reef | 22 | 3D2 Conway reef | 38 | VP8 So.Orkney | | 7 | VU4 Andaman | 23 | KH9 Wake | 39 | KH8 Amer.Samoa | | 8 | KH7 Kure | 24 | VU7 Laccadive | 40 | TI9 Cocos | | 9 | 3B6,7 St.Brandon | 25 | KH1 Howland | 41 | YA Afganistan | | 10 | 3Y Bouvet | 26 | 3C0 Annobon | 42 | JD1 Minami Tor.| | 11 | T31 Centr.Kirib. | 27 | ZL8 Kermadec | 43 | CY9 St. Paul | | 12 | KH5 Palmyra | 28 | HK0 Malpelo | 44 | VP8 So.Georgia | | 13 | VK0 MacQuarie | 29 | 3Y Peter 1 | 45 | FR/J Juan de Nov| | 14 | T33 Banaba | 30 | CE0 San Felix | 46 | T32 East Kirib.| | 15 | BV9 Pratas | 31 | VK9 Mellish | 47 | CY0 Sable | | 16 | ZK3 Tokelau | 32 | VP8 So.Sandwich | 48 | T2 Tuvalu | \==========================================================================/

Several other DX publications report that Tony, WA4JQS, Director of Operations of the South Sandwich Island Antarctic DX Group, states the 1997/98 operation and paper work is going along very well. Permission had been received for a December 1997 landing date, but with the possible establishment of a CCAMLR (Convention of the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Lining Resources) ecosystem monitoring program being set up on the island and taking effect in October, 1997. Problems could arise just before departure time with permission to land. The South Sandwich Group has re-applied for a 1998 season landing date also, so that they would have time to work with any new requirements that the CCAMLR group should request. He also reports that there are many requests by the JA operators for them to postpone their landing until 1998, so that the 28 MHz band opening to JA would be greater. This was also a big factor in the new date request. Ceo OPDX bilten je prikaŔen uz ovu poruku. opdx.zip

PS7AB and PP5SZ will act as Assistant Checkpoints when necessary. These new checkpoint arrangements, which have the support of the Brazilian National Society LABRE, took effect on 1 January 1997. FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTION TO VK6LC'S LACEPEDE IS OPERATION OC-214 " [...] When a group or an individual go out of their way to make a collection for a DXpedition without any thought of benefit to themselves, it deserves to be recorded and publicised. This happened in the case of Mal Johnson VK6LC's operation from the remote Lacepede Is in May 1996 signing VK6ISL. DXNS 1704 [as well as 425DXN 249, ed.] carried a note at the time that the Diamond DX Club (DDXC) had decided to try and raise US$1000 for Mal towards the projected cost of US$5000 for this IOTA New One. Thanks to the tireless efforts of Gianni Varetto, I1HYW, this target was well exceeded, the amount collected reaching, with a US$260 contribution from the USA, a handsome US$1921! This was a tremendous, and extraordinary, gesture on behalf of an operator who has over recent years activated many new IOTA groups in Australia at considerable cost to himself. Needless to say, Mal is very grateful. Hearty congratulations to Gianni and the Diamonds. (This is quite separate from a donation of 450 pounds made by the IOTA Committee, with the assistance of a collection at the Windsor HF Convention, towards the cost of replacing equipment lost by Mal in an accident on his immediately following operation from Sholl Island OC-140)." From: Ray Gerrard <tayno@ibm.net> Subject: 425DXNEWS: Palestine ZC6MPT( Gaza and West Bank) There is the possibility of an operation from the Gaza Strip - Palestine from 12 - 14th February using the call sign ZC6MPT. This will be followed by a visit to the West Bank 14th - 16th Febrary 1997, possibly using own call/ZC6 call- signs. A small group of Japanese operators who are members of the recently formed IARV (International Amateur Radio Volunteers) will be setting off for Palestine on 11th February 1997. Their mission will primarily be Phase 2 of a humanitarian aid project started last June in the Gaza Strip. They will be installing and commissioning VHF/UHF transceivers at hospitals and in ambulances on the West Bank. Also they will be holding discussions with officials about future amateur radio volunteer work. Due to the above commitments there is only a 50/50 chance of operation this time. The operators will be Yoshi JA1UT, Jiro JA3UB, and Teru JA3TXZ. They hope to assist Palestine National operators to activate ZC6MPT from the HQ of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications in Gaza City. Operation is likely to be confined to 14 MHz SSB around 14,190 KHz. Permission to operate from the West Bank is more difficult, and is less likely. However, if permission is granted, it is likely that own call/ZC6 calls will be used. QSLs will be handled by JA1UT. DXers are reminded that the European World Wide Award (Award Manager F6FQK Coucil of Europe)) does recognise Palestine as a separate country already, although DXCC accreditation is still not forthcoming. 73 de Ray ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------- Ray Gerrard 9M2OM (G3NOM) 16 Jln Bkt Antarabangsa, Tmn Bkt Mewah, 68000 Ampang, West Malaysia. We already have an archive at http://www.fr.flashnet.it/425dxnews/ but, due to disk space, it is limited to the last 200 messages (that's quite enough for our mailing list I think). By the way, from what the guys at Reference.COM say, their archive should have no limit. Furthermore you can perform searches through the archive using their "advanced search tool". You can access the archive at Reference.COM through this URL: http://www.reference.com/cgi-bin/pn/listarch?list=425dxnews@pc.fr.flashnet.it YOU'LL HAVE TO CLICK ON "Browse archives" <---- I would take a chance to thank all of the list's members (more than 1270 at the moment) for keeping the mailing list's noise to signal ratio very high.
