Gde i sav ostali software. MOLIM TE nemoj više ista pitanja i iste odgovore oko toga šta je HotLine i kako radi.. Nađi ga ako hoćeš i instaliraj, ako nećeš, nemoj, ali nemoj 100 puta da kucam iste stvari...

=- Kakva?

Unfortunately, this means we had to replace almost all of our PCs after two years of use. Our Macintoshes have lasted almost three times that long, on average," reports DeMaria. Intermediate The ultimate gaming accessory for PCI Macs is a 3Dfx hardware acceleration 3-D graphics card. The images and textures created by these cards is a wonder to behold in such games as Bungie's Myth, MacSoft's Quake, and Graphic Simulations' F/A-18 Korea. Regrettably, TechWorks, one of the few suppliers of these cards for the Macintosh has decided to get out of the 3Dfx card business. Thankfully, there's now a new source for 3Dfx on the Mac. That source? 3Dfx for the PC. That's right, because 3Dfx cards have no ROMs onboard, they don't much care whether they're placed in a PC or Mac's PCI slot. All these cards need to function properly are the correct pass-through cable and software drivers. You can now get both the cable and drivers from Griffin Technology (http://www.nashville.net/%7Egriffin/ne3d/index.html) for a measly $15. Once you have Griffin's NE 3D Game Adapter all you need is just about any PC-based 3Dfx card (that's Voodoo I, not the new Voodoo II cards) and a PCI-based PowerMac with a CD-ROM drive, 32 MB RAM, System 7.5.3 or higher, and a multisync monitor. by Chris Breen

I joined the company two years ago and have made some headway into getting them to look at the Mac as a true business platform. Last year I convinced the Marketing department to purchased a couple of Macs for doing our ad layouts and web site design. Now you can't pry them away from the machines. I've also been able to get eight employees to purchase Macs for their homes. But the best thing is what happened today Our MIS techs have been trying to get a digital Qualcomm cell phone and modem to work together. After two days of trying to configure the Wintel '95 laptop they finally came to the conclusion that there was a problem with the modem. I took my PCMCIA modem out of my 5300cs and plugged the Qualcomm modem in, launched the PPP dialer and instantly connected! No configuration, no drivers, no problems. Needless to say they were completely amazed at how real 'plug and play' works. I guess Microsoft still has a few things to learn from Apple and the MacOS.

Svojevremeno je bilo priče oko ubrzavanj Virtual PC-a. Evo ga isti recept od drugog korisnika, a ostavljam ga jer možda je rekao nešto novo. Subject: Re: Mac user who needs Windows from time to time From: "Steve Hyman" <steveh@practech.com> Date: Thu, 2 Jul 1998 07:25:50 -0400 -----Original Message----- From: Premal J. Shah [mailto:PSHAH@srv1.bmu.mrc.ac.uk] Sent: Thursday, July 02, 1998 6:05 AM Subject: Re: Mac user who needs Windows from time to time I have a friend who uses Macs 80% of the time, Windows 20% of the time. Currently she has a 6100 with an Intel daughter-board processor of some description inside it. She can switch from OS to OS from the keyboard. The machine is starting to get a little long in the tooth, and is only configured with Win 3.1 - she'd like Win95/98. I can install more RAM (in order to get enough for Win9x) on the Intel processor card, but that's not really going to solve the speed problems. Can anyone suggest an appropriate platform, or hardware configuration, that I might suggest to her that'll cover all her needs? Many thanks. * John I wonder if this is useful: Here's the VPC tip (culled from various places on the Net): If you need to REALLY run Windows 95 at it's fastest on your Mac, do this with VPC: On another partition create a bare bones System (sorry, without another partition, this will not work), remove EVERY extension except the Appearance extension, and every control panel except the Appearance contr ol panel. Then move the VPC preference file into the new System's preferenc e folder. Also move the VirtualPC app itself into the System folder. Remo ve the Finder from the System, throw it in the trash and delete it. Use ResEdit to change the VPC app's 'creator' code to MACS and 'type' to FNDR. Then rename VirtualPC=81 to Finder. Then reboot holding down "Shift-Option-Command-Delete", this will force your Mac to boot from a System other than your startup disk. !!DO NOT CHANGE THE STARTUP DISK IN THE STARTUP DISK CONTROL PANEL!! If you do, it will be murder trying to get it to boot back to MacOS. Now what you have is Windows 95 booting instead of MacOS, and the performance increase is more than double! Alas, you will not be able to use the MacOS while you are running VPC like this, but you WILL still be able to share ANY Mac folder!, but if you NEED to use Win95, this is the best way to do it! Now to get back to the MacOS, just quite VPC as normal, saving it where y ou left off, and then once it has saved the data to the disc, you just force-restart "Control-Command-PowerKey", and your Mac will safely boot back to MacOS. BTW, all networking is STILL available from the PC using it this way, it' s great! On my 8500/180 I am getting speeds that my PC loving friend says are fast er than his 200MMX, so believe me, it kicks ass! If you want to play games on VPC, this is the way to do it. To sum it up: create a small System folder with only the folowing extensi ons: Appearance Extension Text Encoding Convertor (if 8.1) Remove the Finder and put in a copy of VPC. Open VPC with ResEdit and "Get Info" on the file. Change the file type an d creator codes from: APPL/VtPC to FNDR/MACS. The computer will now load VPC thinking it's the Finder. This speeds thin gs up quite a bit. Prem Shah, MRC BMU, Royal Edinburgh Hospital, Morningside Park, Edinburgh, EH10 5HF pshah@srv1.bmu.mrc.ac.uk Tel 0131- 537 6675

Keyword: Advocacy, Why Macs Are Better This tidbit is from: <adfj@spirit.com.au> I attended an Apple Roadshow this week where one of the speakers mentioned that on his visits to printers and pre-press service bureaus, he still saw six and seven year old Macs being used. (He went on to say that this was a false economy and they would be better off getting new G3s). However, this did bring to mind a recent computer auction I attended. In amongst the ex-government Macs on offer was a wooden pallet load of 286s with keyboards, but no monitors. The starting price for the 10 or so CPUs? $50 (The $Oz is worth about US60 cents). There were no takers. The auctioneer then went down to $40, $20, finally $5. No takers. So, while PCs are being sent to the dump, their Mac counterparts are still earning money for their owners. Imagine how long a new G3 will stay in service?

Why do such a thing? Certain games such as Bungie's Myth and Blizzard's Diablo require a CD-ROM in order to function, but there are times when using a CD-ROM drive is inconvenient or impossible. For instance, when you're trying to play on a PowerBook without a CD-ROM drive or when you're in PowerBook battery-critical situations (on a long flight) and you'd rather your volt-hungry CD-ROM drive didn't reduce your playing time. Time was that you could use Chad Magendanz's extraordinary ShrinkWrap utility to create mountable disk images of CD-ROMs, but regrettably, ShrinkWrap doesn't handle such dual-platform CD-ROMs as Myth and Diablo. However, Apple does provide a workable solution with its newest version of the venerable Disk Copy (6.1.2). Just drag and drop the CD-ROM's icon to the Disk Copy icon. Disk Copy will open and display a dialog box asking you to name the image. This same dialog box sports a Mount Image checkbox. Check it to have the image of the CD mount automatically. Once Disk Copy finishes with the disc you can eject the CD and never bother with it again. Just mount the disk image whenever you want to play your favorite game. by Chris Breen

Date: Wed, 8 Jul 1998 02:06:33 -0800 From: John Halbig <john@garage.com> Subject: Tidbit - MS Exchange Mail Server "Fun" Keyword: Advocacy, Windows Daymares This tidbit is from: J. Scott Edwards, <sedwards@xmission.com> The company I work for (who shall remain nameless) replaced all of the Macs with Windoze NT boxes about a year ago. Since then I've had the usual NT problems, the famous "Blue Screen of Death", strange behavior after it's been running for a while requiring a reboot to restore normal operation, etc. BUT the biggest deal has been the Microsoft Exchange mail server. It went down a few months ago and was down for 5 days (over a weekend). And what I thought was particularly obnoxious was that when the server went down, it didn't give me any sort of indication that the server was down, it just simply locked up my computer. So much for one program not affecting other programs!! On Monday of this week the Microsoft Exchange server went down again (it's now Friday). They finally had to fly an expert from Microsoft in (I wonder whose dime that was on?). It was finally back up yesterday (Thursday) afternoon, with only new mail received yesterday. Nothing (schedules, mail, etc.) had been restored. But I could not even access my new mail, all I got when I launched Outlook was a bunch of dialog boxes about files it couldn't find. So I called the IT dept. and they said I should just install Outlook 98 and that would probably fix it. I did that and at least I could read the e-mail from yesterday. My understanding is that the Exchange database uses some odd format that your ordinary backup software cannot backup. Therefore the IT folks have been using some sub-par backup software for backing up the Exchange server, which evidently has not been reporting the fact that the backups were failing. The server was down again today while they tried to restore what data they could from May 31 but I believe even that is incomplete. Everything since then may be lost? They've sent some tapes or disks to Microsoft to see if any more data can be recovered. When the server came back up today, I launched my newly installed (yesterday) Outlook and got a dialog that it can't access the Outlook.ost file because it has been configured for use with a different mailbox (I swear I never touched a thing since I installed it yesterday). When I click on OK I get another dialog asking me for the Offline Folder File Settings and when I click on OK I get the other dialog saying it can't access that .ost file again. OK.. OK.. OK.. OK.. OK.. OK.. OK... hours worth of fun with your bloatware! Maybe my memory is failing me but I don't ever remember the Mac/VAX mail system causing me (and the entire company) this much grief . __________________________ Digital Guy Sez: An interesting side note: This post came into my in box four times, only the last one was complete. Coincidence? :-)

My wife and I volunteered to register the hundreds of riders for the racing events. We set up a Powerbook 3400 and two 5300ce's on a phonenet network running a Filemaker 4 database that my wife built just for the occasion. Day one, Friday, 5:30 am we arrive at the registration area, a local school. We pulled a picnic table to the front of the building, set up the macs, turned them on, and started the database. As that was going on we strung an extension cord from the school, plugged all the laptops in, added a LaserWriter to the network, and turned it on. We were ready to register riders at 5:45... 15 minutes early. Two hours later, the bike race was underway. We unplugged the whole thing, packed it up, and went to the start-finish line. We pulled out the 3400 as the race finished and started plugging results into the database. We zipped back to town, printed out the results at the office, and posted them a couple hours later. But that's not all, we also exported the data to a tab-delimited file, and used Golive Cyberstudio (a Mac only program) to import the data into tables on a web page, and uploaded the results of the race to the web. The following day we split up the network, with one 5300ce going to the time trials registration area with a Laserwriter, and the 3400 and remaining 5300ce going to the Mountain Bike venue, with another Laserwriter. At the Mountain Bike Venue, we ran the network off a generator from 6 a.m. till 3:30 pm. When we first got there, the mud was thick and sticky, and there was a light mist falling. Fortunately there was a tent at the venue, and we could set up the tables on 3/4" plywood so the legs didn't sink into the mud. The sun came out around 8 a.m. and things dried up nicely however. At 3:30 we pulled up stakes at the mountain bike venue and rushed into town for the evening's Gaslight Classic (named for the picturesque gaslights that line the historic streets of Nevada City). By 4:15 we were back to a 3 laptop network, registering riders for the evening races. We packed up the computers at 9:30 that night. The final day started (mercifully) later. We started registering riders at 10:30 am and the effort was completed by 6:30 pm. The next day we were back to our normal business of designing cool new media for Corporate America. You can see the Nevada City Classic website at <http://www.ncclassic.com> We didn't see much of the races, but quite a few of the riders and coaches were pretty jazzed about seeing Macs doing cool things under difficult conditions. The judges & announcer loved getting the starting rosters neatly printed instead of handwritten as they often are these races. And the riders loved how quickly we could process their registration, so that the lines moved quickly and the race results were posted soon after the races. And of course, we loved the Macs for being reliable, quick to set up, and efficient for moving files around over AppleShare.

Keyword: Advocacy, Windows Daymares This tidbit is from: Dave's not here, <dave.solko@uc.edu> Today, my boss, jealous of the fact that I have a websharing and netpresenz on my machine, decided that he would bring his Windows machine up to my Mac. In his words, it would be even better, because personal web server has FTP included, and he wouldn't have to download and install two apps. According to him, since Apple can't do anything right, he wasn't surprised they didn't include an FTP server in their webserver. So, off he went to Microsoft's website to download and install Personal webserver. (He used to have Personal Web Server installed on his machine, but that was a couple of intalls of '95 ago -- It blows up every couple of months.) He launched Netscape and when he got to the Personal Webserver site, he was told he couldn't download Personal Webserver because he wasn't running IE 4.01. So he downloaded IE 4.01 and downloaded the installer so he could install IE. He then went back to Microsoft's site, found Personal Webserver, downloaded it and another installer so he could install Personal Webserver -- someday, Microsoft will figure out how to make an application which installs *all* its products. He then installed and configured Personal Webserver in about an hour -- which to Microsoft's credit is *Much* easier than trying to install IIS. But, much to his dismay, Microsoft has removed FTP services from Personal Webserver 4. After much swearing, off he went to Shareware.com, found wftp and downloaded and installed it. So, after a morning spent downloading and installing five apps: a browser he didn't want a webserver, two installers and an FTP server, he now has the same services it took me about 5 minutes to install and configure on my Mac, and one of them came with my system.

Onda sam lepo stavio i IE4 i NS4 i novi QT3. I naravno, ista priča. I dalje neće da pusti ništa od animacija i uporno mi izbacuje: The document "xxx" could not be opened, because the application "mociePlayer" could not be found. The document cannot be translated because an unexpected problem has occurred (-2009).

Date: Fri, 17 Jul 1998 12:31:59 -0800 From: John Halbig <john@garage.com> Subject: Tidbit - PC Journalist Thinks iMac This tidbit is from: The Digital Guy <mailto:evangelist@apple.com> One journalist at a time. Maybe Steve needs to send an iMac to every Mac hating journalist in the world. ;-) <http://www.mcme.com/980715.htm> "I know it's not logical. Logic says to stick with my Windows machine, put up with the crashes, and upgrade every 18 months, just like everyone else. "But I'm tired of logic. Everywhere I looked at Macworld, I saw people who love their computers. I found myself longing to have the same relationship with the little box under my desk at home. But that won't happen with this machine." Also notable is the great quote from one of my favorite authors, Douglas Adams (on the Y2K problem): "I've written a commercial for Apple Computer. It goes like this: 'Macintosh - we might not get everything right, but at least we knew the century was going to end.'"

Intermediate Older startup files such as control panels and extensions probably work perfectly with your modern Power Mac. But unbeknownst to you, because code hasn't been optimized for the PowerPC chip, these files may be slowing you down. How to tell? Fire up a copy of Casady & Greene's Conflict Catcher. This fine utility sports a feature that reports when system traps and system patches may not be seeing eye to eye. To view this report just press the Report button in Conflict Catcher's main window and select Patched System Traps from the pull-down menu in the resulting window. Files with an asterisk (*) indicate patched traps that may be causing a minor slowdown. If you discover that some of your older startup files contain a number of these patched traps you might consider doing without these files or finding versions that are a bit more current. by Chris Breen

Nisam ništa koristio u međuvremenu, nije mi bilo potrebno, ma koliko to čudno zvučalo.

For $10 more than free you can get a much better text editor -- Tom Bender's Tex-Edit Plus. Tex-Edit not only performs basic text editing chores, but it supports smart quotes, includes a WYSIWYG font menu, allows you to use colored text, can read documents to you using Apple's Speech technology, and can strip extraneous linefeeds and character returns. Date: Tue, 21 Jul 1998 16:18:14 -0700 From: Guy Kawasaki <Kawasaki@garage.com> Subject: PR - USB to ADB for iMacs This announcement is from: Jason Litchford, <media@griffintechnology.com> Griffin Technology, Inc. today announced the iMate USB to ADB adapter which allows users to take advantage of any ADB device on newer iMac models. Until now users of the upcoming iMac systems would be restricted to the included Apple mouse and keyboard. The iMate opens an entire world of standard ADB devices to iMac users including mice, keyboards, trackballs, joystics, trackpads. Future support also will include other ADB devices such as dongles and Applevision displays. At $29.00, Griffin Technology's iMate adapter will offer a great solution for all Macintosh computer users. The adapter is fully compliant with all Apple and third party ADB devices. ADB devices can be daisy chained just as can be done on current Macs. And users are not restricted to just ADB. USB keyboards and ADB devices can be mixed and matched. The iMate will ship in mid August in time for the Apple iMac rollout. Apple has made a strategic and revolutionary change in the computer industry by being the first to only support USB input devices. Apple has also said that future Macs will also only support USB and that ADB will be phased out in future models. The iMate will ease the transition period by offering a large number of compatibility options immediately for users. The iMate adapter will be compatible with the iMac computers scheduled to ship in August as well as all Mac models with a PCI slot using the Griffin Technology Power USB card. It will also be compatible with future Mac models with built in USB ports. It can additionally be used with any PC equipped with a USB port and Windows 98 making it the perfect Mac/PC connectivity product. Since 1992, Griffin Technology has been an innovator of exciting hardware and software products for the Mac market. Griffin currently manufactures numerous innovative video and audio adapters for the Mac.
